This little guy grew pretty good for a few days. I noticed this morning that the veil was starting to tear. I took another look at it tonight, and it's pretty much gone. Does this mean this guy is pretty much done growing? Why did this happen so young? Should I pick it soon?

Give it 6 hours then pick covered in spores. It happens once the veil breaks it will grow a little flatten up the top. But the weight will be the same. Cpuld be genes. Could be water content.

yeah pretty much done growing. the whole purpose of the actually mushroom to the myc is to release spores.
once that veil breaks, shortly after the spores release, the mushrooms job is done. there would be no reason it would keep growing after a few hours after the veil breaks.
my thought as to why it broke 'young' is (just like the poster above me) because it's genetics or water content, I presume you're using multispore innoc which will give you a huge range of results.
if you want consistent mushrooms in the future grows grab some agar supplies and when you get a mushroom with the characteristics you like (dense stipe, cluster, first flush, medium-large size fruit) clone it, make a couple transfers you can expand the genetic from there. if you have the resources take a handful of clones.
-------------------- But if you're in a hurry, and really got to go
If you're in a hurry, might have to find out slow
That it's one thing to try and another to fly
You get there quicker just a step at a time
It's one thing to bark, another to bite
The show ain't over till you pack up at night

Thank you both for the feedback, it's appreciated! I picked this mushy first thing this morning, and a small height cluster off my other cake as well. And yes, they are MS Golden Teachers.
Filthyknees, got some petri dishes and agar powder on the way. I will take a look at your links regardless though, as I want to obtain as much cloning info as possible before starting the process.
Thanks again
