Best substrate for blue meanies?
    #23189821 - 05/04/16 07:23 PM (8 years, 8 months ago)

Hey guys, i'm going to use an Agar method to try to create a culture off a wild blue meanie i picked.

Someone mentioned that I shouldn't use BRF cakes with blue meanies but i can't seem to find any information saying what is best for what species?

Can anyone point me in the right direction and also give me any pointers?

If you can't find hpoo, store bought manure works.  Check my signature.

Just had a look at your guide. How long do you pressure cook that mix for?

Also how frequently do you fan them in the SGFC, just once a day or when you mist them?

Cheers man. I'm getting excited!

Starting up an agar culture tomorrow!

This might be a retarded question... Do i have to sterilize the vermiculite?

Also, when I go to case them, is it beneficial to break up the substrate and move them into bigger containers.. such as this guide?

check this out, it's a little easier to follow and I feel it's a bit more common than late casing.

if you do macmerdins pan cake style dont break them up just fruit them as cakes.
if you inoculate grains then you need to break the grains up and spawn them to bulk (manure, straw, coir, verm etc)

the verm gets pasteurized along with the substrate.
if you're talking about actually casing the pan cakes then no need to sterilize the verm.

I got a goddamn stubborn Pan Cyan syringe atm, won't germinate for shit. Only 1 out of 4 plates got germination but I'm not liking how the mycelium is looking so it might just turn out to be mold.

Inoculated 3 LCs with it today, if these babies don't take I doubt anything will.

Yuck LC from spores ? If I were you Id put it into a small jar of grains... you can fork a colonized one and put it on a plate to go from there

I have the same situation right now, a pan syringe that doesn't wanna germinate on agar. Try changing your recipe lower the agar a little and soften it uo some

Already done soft agar. Spore to LC is only a bad idea because we use a stirrer before we use it on grains. Without stirring you will get small puffballs of mycelium which are fine to use on agar.
