Well last night I bought a decent electric PC and I have to take my prints like now...caps are just about flat as I type now. I just searched around for a bit but im still left with a couple questions and Im in a rush. The jar I'm using was just used for a brf cake and has innoc holes in the top. Can I put the foil in the bottom of the jar screw the cap on and put it in the PC Will water get inside of it? Sorry I know if I took the time I could answer this myself but I have alot of work in front of me and I need some guidence. thanks guys.

You don't need a PC for making prints. If you tear away the first foot of your foil roll, the next piece will be sterile. Take a piece of foil big enough to print and put it in your SAB with a mature cap on top of it. Take any jar and put it upside down over your cap so it will cover the print from contams. After you have a nice dark print remove the cap but leave the print there covered with the jar so the moisture the foil got from the cap will evaporate. That will prevent bacteria from forming on your print. After it dries fold it and store it in ziplock bags. Viola!

I'm confused by your post. Spore printing is usually done on aluminum foil in a SAB. Aluminum foil can be sanitized with rubbing alcohol before you put the cap on it. Use the shiny side of the foil.

thankyou you possible just saved me from blowing my new PC by using it before I got the chance to sit down and see how it works lol. Only question left is are the prints immune to contams just by being wrapped in foil wile stored?

Sorry guys I already answered alot of my own questions. I was reading a TEK that had you PC a piece of foil in a jar. In your post you said use any jar? Wouldnt "any jar" possibly already have contams in it and should be PC'd first? just wondering, thanks.

Don't ever wipe a piece of foil with alcohol before you print. That is the equivalent of sterilizing a grain jar and inoculating it in open air. Why take a piece of sterile foil and contaminate it with your paper towel?
More on subject. Fruiting is far from a sterile procedure so prints and syringes will always have some contamination on them. This is why agar is so important for mycologists and why people say that no syringe is 100% clean, even if you buy it from the most respectable vendor. Now that you have a PC you can basically take advantage of every tool a mycologist can use. Agar should be the first thing to research, it will allow you to clean even the most filthy cultures and spores. It is also the only way you can guarantee that your inoculant is 100% clean, unlike using a syringe.
Grains are also an awesome option when you have a PC. IMHO, cakes should only ever be done if you don't own a PC. If you own a PC you can easily sterilize grains sufficiently to make your own bulk grows. Don't let the word "bulk" scare you, you can make small trays using a bulk method and it will be both faster and easier than cakes can ever be.
Start reading and researching until your eyes bleed, there are countless good teks for making the best use of your grains, agar and bulk subs. Goodluck.

You can PC it but it will not matter much. The cap will already have contaminants and the jar will not be touching the print or cap in any way. The surface of the jar might be contaminated but the still air it creates by being upside down will prevent contams from the room from landing on your print. I don't sterilize the jar, the point is to get the air as still as possible around the cap and print but you are welcome to do so if it makes you feel better.

No problem. The method for making foil involves a lot of pressure and very high heat so it will be effectively sterile while rolling and packaging. That is why we tear off the first bit because it has been exposed to the open air in the room but beyond that, it will be clean as it can be.

I could be completely wrong but for my next grow I was going to go with bulk monotubs but somewhere on here I read that temperature needs to be controlled alot more than with sgfc's. very erratic temps here. more chance to contam...idk I still need to do some research. I feel comfortable with cakes as I just experienced everything that will happen during a life cycle.

If anything, bulk is easier and definitely faster than cakes. You need to read up on monotub teks, you don't know what you are missing.

0.5 to 10 ounces dry or anywhere in between. In other words, guessing won't do you any good, it could be wildly different.

I would amend that to say 0-10oz. complete failure is always possible with your first attempt.

That's what I'm gonna start doing, kinda like, misquoting how bad something could be by a tiny margin so that someone else seems like the dick when they correct it.
