say i PC some brf half pints, and for whatever reason i have some left over. can i re-PC them to ensure sterility? or would it screw up the water content or anything like that?

I just did this exact thing with some half pint jars. Seemed to have been fine because I inoculated it 4 days ago and have colonization showing.

If you have to re-PC them doesn't that mean they weren't sterilized the first time?

huh, nah i just mean to ensure their sterility. like say i PC some, then had a few left over after i inoced some, and they sit for a week or so.. can i PC them again, before i inoc them, just to be safe? i dont see why it should be a problem, messes with the water content or something.
I mean, im sure if i just inoc'd them without a second PC, they would be fine, but just wondering if you can do this, just t be safe.

Of course that's ok, OP. There shouldn't be any significant change in moisture content, if any at all. A week, two weeks is fine. Anything past that and I'd personally start anew.
Better safe than sorry.

alright, thanks man. i didnt think it would be a problem.. and yeah, i would rather just be safe about it. they have only sat for a week, so should be fine. my spores got here later than they were supposed to =p

Hate when that happens, makes prepping everything a bit of a guessing game as to the timeline of things. A vendor, who shall not be named because they have been reliable 99% of the time, once had me wait nearly 4 months before I received spores. I was irritated because I had wasted money from premature prepping my grain jars. Good luck!

Why not just make some new ones and not have to worry about it... There is like 3 cents worth of ingredients in a brf cake...

That IS the safest route, however, I don't see an issue in re-sterilizing since it will kill anything possibly bad.

i mean it has only been a week(more like 5 days), they they have sat with the foil still on the tops, so i mean, i could probably inoc them as is, and be alright.. i just want t be safe though, without having to go out and buy more brown rice.. the bag i bought was not big, and i made 12 jars, using it all. and the fiancee has the car right now, and then i have to go to work when she gets home haha.. for the next few days our schedules are like that.
i mean i might wait a couple days to make more, if you guys think i am being that risky with re-PCing 5 day old jars?
