Need some advice on starting an out door cyan patch

I put stem butts on cardboard last year around the start of winter, but din't get a whole lot of growth, so I moved the mycelium into freezer bags with alder sawdust. Growth has picked up a lot. Would it be too late to start a bed around the middle to end of next month?

It is getting a little late imo to put out spawn and get fruits this fall. IME the problem isn't necisarily time but lack of moisture. I think the myc. Needs to colonise enough chips in a mat/clump to survive the dry summer. U can greatly up your odds by using a high spawn ratio, spawning to a chip bed that has sprinkler system, providing water yourself through out the summer.
What do you have to lose, if you keep it indoors through the summer it will more than likely trich. out.

what if I put spawn in Rubbermaid tubs, and then kept them in the shade throughout the summer? I saw someone post something about growing woodlovers in pots. Has anyone had any luck with that?

Yeah Ive seen this before and i'm sure it would work. Ive never done this, not sure u would want the lid. woodlovers need high fae. The same thing could be done out of the tub if u made a small patch the first year to get first fall fruits. Then u could add to the patch next winter after the fall fruiting. With woodlover active they colonise slowly and need to colonise a large amount of the wood chips in the vicintity of the patch to fruit in the fall. So at this point it would be a race against time for the myc to colonise enough. The tub won't speed this up and may hinder the process by blocking fae. But at the same time the tub will help with humidity. So you wont have to supplement as much moisture. Cyans want lots of fae and humidity.

Your best bet this time of year is continue expansion in shaded areas; starting planters might be a good idea. If you have native non-conifer chips and soil they'll do well. They also love coir so it couldn't hurt to throw that in a planter with them. They'll destroy it.
