"I think is just business"

Right. Politics has turned into a business in case nobody noticed......

BIG, BIG BUSINESS.

Well in this case no one has to watch the game, I'm not going to though I may
drink a few beers. Business is funny like that you don't , like it you can take yours
somewheres else it is a lot like politics in that respect.

I think that is all business. The anti bush ad or whatever would make it appear that cbs is anti bush, which in turn in many peoples mind makes them anti america. More people are going to offended by an anti bush ad than an ad by george bush. Plain and simple, you offend people, you lose their support. CBS could be the most liberal channel for all I know, but from a business standpoint it just makes sense not to air an anti bush ad.

What?  Who won't be getting repeat business from moveon?  This is the SuperBowl.  Advertisers pay hefty sums of money to get an advertising spot.  It sounds like moveon has the money, but the network won't allow it to be aired.  This is pure censorship.  No way around that.

Actually, their is a gigantic way around that.  Private networks can air whatever the hell they would like, as long as it meets FCC and other federal regulatory standards.  If I don't want liberal trash to be shown on my TV channel, then it wont' be, and thats that.  Censorship makes it sound like it's big government at work, and it's not. It's an owner of a media outlet deciding what he will or will not air.  If you don't like it, you can start your own TV network, make your own football teams, and have your own superbowl. Four days and counting, good luck

some of you act as tho the media is absolutely removed from the government and politics, it is not. if you truely believe there is no influence of belief affecting what you see, it is your loss of knowledge and reality. censorship exists, so do monopolies. it is in your benefit to understand and accept these things. or you could get drunk and watch football.

Just so you guys know, there was a link to moveon.org on the Communist Party USA website. And the reason why they are being denied airtime might be due to their ties with that organization. Just a thought.

The government is not making this advertisment illegal to show, nor is it having any overt action in preventing it from being shown. CBS Broadcasting, or whomever the entity is, has decided not to air it. If the American Nazi Party (or some such group) wanted to put on an advertisment for joining their ranks and building more concentration camps, they could just as easily say no to that. It's THEIR network, not yours, if you don't like what htey are doing, thats your opinion, but at least have the intelligence to realize that it's not government-sponsored censorship, it's a group of people deciding what they will, or will not show, on their television station.

This is evolving's post on another thread, but he/she sums it up well:

"Corporate news organizations are very careful about biting the hand that feeds them. If CBS, ABC, NBC, FOX, CNN etc were to come down too harshly on the establishment they would not longer be fed exclusives or get the opportunities for questions at news conferences or may even be denied press passes for disharmonious new reporters. Also, any broadcast station is granted an exclusive monopoly on their frequency by the government (in a geographic area). FCC licensing can be revoked or the FCC may increase scrutiny on a broadcaster and decide that some of the broadcast content is deserving of fines for one infraction or another. It should also be noted that cable providers are granted exclusive monopolies by municipalities (though I don't think this has much bearing on what channels they decide to carry).

A thoughtful examination of the broadcast press in the U.S., would yield the conclusion that they would tend to be biased towards the powers that be."

*yea, im sure alot of people would get pissed off if they ared an anti bush ad. If people are pissed off, they might change the channel. Advert isers know this.*

That was the dumbest thing i have ever heard, do you really think some one is going to change the channel of something that they are watching simply because they had to watch a commercial they didnt like. Hell i hate all commercials but i still watch tv.

Hmm, if they changed the channel that would definately reflect people overreacting. Which NEVER occurs from the superbowl:
