Wireless Networking - Someone fucking help me

I came home the other night to find out my parents had bought a second computer and a wireless router. Linksys 2.4ghz (802.11mbps). I thought this shit was supposed to be easier to set up. But I have some questions.
1.) Should I have to drag and drop the files I want to share into the "My Shared Folder"? Because that's the only way I've been able to do it. When I right click a folder and go to "Security and Sharing" or whatever I get a dialog but with all these inactive buttons.
2.) Is there anyway to share everything on my computer, but password protect it on the client, assuming my computer is the host? I ask because I want to share everything for when I'M at the second computer, but I don't want others doing that.
Thanks for any help you can offer, this networking stuff has me confused.

Umm... that is 802.11a, 802.11b, or 802.11g... they are standards not data transmission rates (mbps).
The sharing questions you are asking have nothing to do with the wireless router... assuming that you can see/ping one computer from the other.
It is hard to answer 1) and 2) without knowing what version of winblows you are running. Based on your descriptions, I would assume XP, but home vs pro makes a lot of difference in what you can do with file sharing.

Hmmm, the new computer is Home, mine is Pro. It's 802.11b - I was going to type that in the post initially, my bad. I wasn't really asking if they had to do with the wireless router, just sort of WHY they were happening and how to fix it. Or if they needed fixing. Any ideas?

I think you need to go through the process of setting up a home network first...just run the wizard, then those inactive buttons should be active...

Yeah, I used the wizard, still didn't work. In order for me to share folders/files I have to drag and drop them into the "My Shared Folder", then go onto Workgroup Computers and go into "My Shared Folder" to use the files via the network. Mind boggling. And dragging and dropping the files forces me to copy them, which takes up unnecessary hard drive space.

so you've ran the wizard on both computers.....set them both to the same network name, that all went well? then you restarted? and it's still doing that?
maybe go into administration tools (given your admin) and then computer mangment and check out the share's there...I'm pretty sure you can add shares there...if not read the administrative tools help for the topic of sharing...
please keep us updated
