Vermiculite on Product

Using the PFtec method, I rolled my cakes in vermiculite prior to placing them in the fruiting chamber. The shrooms are growing nicely, but have vermiculite on them. Prior to drying, should i gently dust them off, or rinse them to remove the vermiculite. I certainly do not want to damage these beauties. Thanks!

Rinse and wash. I don't worry too much about damaging stems.

I do this, then dice them up, then dehydrate them.

I put oyster shells in my casing, so the base of the stems basically have mini razorblades in them. I have to cut them out lol.

I scrape off with my fingernail or remove the top layer of the stem with my nail. Works well if you don't want to cut it off

Because i have a culinary background I do it a bit differently. When you wash mushrooms they soak up the water. When you cook them, you are generally only supposed to scrub them with a stiff brush to get off whatever dirt they have. Sometimes recipes call for you to peel the outside of the mushroom too.
But like the others said, it's much easier to just chop off the very bottoms.

I use an exacto knife, like the one on the big cap in my signature. You can scrape up a very think layer of outter 'skin' near the base of the stem, and peal off all the 'fuzzy' shit and dirt, like a banana. I also use a small paint brush and brush the crap off.

same here, I'm no chef but I've always been told not to rinse mushrooms in water. simply brush them clean. I harvest with scissors so I dont have to clean them at all tho.
