salt drying experimented.

Another shroomer asked a question about drying fresh wild mushrooms in a place where they have no oven or good fan and want to make them cracker dry. I respound to make a chamber with salt to dry them out. And because of the dount on here im haveing to rethink what i know about science. Thus im testing out what i said with a fesh pick mushroom i call tom. And plan table salt in a plastic sandwich bag. Ill post result in 24 hours or less if im right about salt Enjoy toms nude pics.

Your mushroom is going to be rotten if it's in a closed plastic bag.

The process of dalt preservation involves osmosis. Salt brings water out, and imbues the flesh with salt. In meats. Since a mushroom is 90% water, its wayer content is far greater thsn any meat.
To see positive results, you need to drown Tom in salt. Untill you can no longer see him. Bury thst mushroom in salt.
That is not enough salt.

Sulfates absorb water better than chlorides, IIRC. Oven-dried Epsom salts or gypsum are probably a better choice.

Bodhisatta did you happen to hear about that on "This American Life" NPR podcast? I just listened to it the other day about how the Doctors tell the family and not the patient. Talking about how it can work out for the best sometimes.

You could brush off most the salt once it dried and crumble the mushroom into a magic salty seasoning.

A single mushroom is really easy to dry if you just roll it in a paper bag and leave it in the fridge. Split the stem if it is a bigger shroom.
Desiccants suck to begin with, and salt isn't nearly as effective as desiccant packets.

It appears to have rotted before it got cured. Cool to know thet could be cured.
Interesting do it again, with more moresalt, and air . Maybe even warm it dhring that process. Get it cured quick before water has a chance to rot the flesh.

Yea those big rock things formed due to the humidity they absorbed. Once that happens, the salt is less effective at pulling moisture.
Presto's $35 dehydrators kick ass.

Where is this proof, then? So far, you managed to dry out a single mushroom and it doesn't seem like you did it properly since it tasted like ass..
I'm telling you, a paper bag in the fridge would have been more effective.

Eh, I wasn't mad.
I'm pretty sure the conclusion everyone here has come to is that salt is a shitty desiccant.
I didn't think you were trying to dry quantity with this method. I just didn't even see a point in trying this when there are brutally simple ways to dry small amounts.
