There is an amazing amount of doublespeak or "spin" in the spiritual community. This is where either a negative or a positive result or experience is used equally as support for some dogma or theory. This form of "rationalization" is used to back-up everything from the power of prayer to mushrooms trips to alien visitation to Biblical interpretation.
How would we ever make progress in the physical world if the same "logic" applied?

yeah it's kind of a vicious feedback loop. if it works, it proves that God exists! if it doesn't, he's just testing my faith! doh!

I don't get what you're trying to say. Sometimes prayers are answered, sometimes they're not. ???

Swami, our world revolves around such. I believe the reason for this is because we cannot communicate our thoughts, accurately. We use the best words we can think of at the time and those words are taken quite literally. For example... the war on terrorism.

For example... the war on terrorism.
That is a "good" example of a doublespeakian slogan. A war is in itself an act of terror. (Ooops! Did not mean to shift into Politics. Forget I said anything.)

Things like "forgive", "judge not", "love thy neighbor"... I see people practice those morals every day... that is why there is no death penalty in the US, that is why we help people rather than lock them away in prison, etc...

That is doublespeak ONLY if both results are use as evidence for the efficacy of prayer in manifesting physical results.

I think you are confusing hypocrisy with doublespeak. Hypocrisy is where actions do not match one's spoken beliefs.
In doublespeak, all things whether negative or positive are positive (not to be confused with optimism); i.e., "a bad trip" = "a good trip".

I agree with MM on this one. It's typical human behavior. A person will justify anything to maintain their belief.

What? What exactly are you referring to? And what exactly is the purpose of this thread? Drama? Excitement? Stirring up dissension in the forum? Bashing believers, again? What? Funny how I am the only one here that is constantly requested as to motivation about their thread. If everyone agrees to that I will play along, but will not be singled out. Perhaps you could start a trend. You must find something of interest here or else you would avoid my threads.
I've already pointed out that this is common to all of mankind. But uncommon to one who is exploring new ideas. I thought that what was one of the main thrusts of this forum. It is only when the data doesn't fit the "system" that one either attempts to stay mired in the old through doublethink or looks beyond their current paradigm.
