Hey MS, I am in central Alberta, you think it might colonize outdoors here too? Just had a few friends ask if it was possible around here so thought I'd ask.

I have no idea. I'm about to try it out this year. Contam piles worked great last year though. In Alberta.

So a tray will work in a FC with only the surface exposed to air? For some reason I thought it had to be removed from the try so the whole cake/mix would get air. Just the top getting air is what matters?

Can't be bothered for second flushes so 150%-200% first flush is good enough for me. But a 200% BE tub is usually jammed for me. I got no idea how you would see more.
Mini mono 2 quarts graim

66 quart mono, 5 quarts grain

BE ends up the same for both IME. it's more about managing water supply and fruiting conditions which often does favor the smaller scale. But it can be done on any scale IMO.
So heres the big question homie.
Trays or mini monos? I dig that mini mono write up you did as well

I'm going to say do both and decide for yourself what you prefer. I like mini monos a lot myself. But I have had plenty of success with trays as well. There are many ways to skin a cat.

If it was me and I already got a SGFC AND good perlite then that's the way it'll be. Then "I" would set up a mini mono and research grains and maybe even mixing grains for the sack of trying sumt new. Here now I got trays and perlite for my SGFC so that's happening. I also have a 66qt with holes and polyfil for when I have a better understanding of mono

Word. Yea I hated using a SGFC due to the fact I always make a mess with perlite because the SGFC has well 100 fuckin holes in it and water always would come out the bottom. I like the monotub strictly for not having to use perlite as well as taking 5 minutes to make one considering drilling all those shotgun holes without cracking your tub is fucking time consuming :p
Cheers

I buy super course perlite. I hydrate some straight out the bag and layer an inch with it. That reduces the amount that falls out the bottom. Then I just crush, hydrate and layer another 3inches.
