Total newb. Seeking wisdom with temp fluctuation.
    #23166721 - 04/28/16 07:54 PM (8 years, 8 months ago)

Hey guys!  Thanks in advance for any advice. My buddy is doing his first pf and is ready to inoc.  The current location for safe incubation has been able to be kept at a steady 78 to 81. However my buddy know there is a very good chance that while he is not around ambient temps in this location may rise to near 90.  Will this hurt the jars? He has heat going now to keep at 80.  Climate here is crazy so at 5 am it could be 50 and at 1pm it could be 75.  Looking forward to ideas as he can only incubate in this location.  Thanks!

Yes high temps could make it so your jars perform less than optimal. Also higher temps tends to lead to more contaminates.

A fan with good circulation can help out a lot. Over the years I've found the best performing types fans are these ones. I run it on it's lowest setting and it circulates air quiet well and temperatures from room to ceiling are the same. It may help in your situation, it may make things worse. I'd say its worth a try. I use one in my grow room and put it next to a vent. I have four thermometers running from the ground to the ceiling. If I set my house thermostat to 74 the whole room stays at 74, even on hot 95 degree summer days. My conditions may well be different from yours though.. I'm not sure how much altitude and humidity also factor into it but I'm sure they do siginifactly. Either way, you just have to tinker around and figure out whats best for you. Good luck

Ideally you'll want to find a way to even out the temps a bit. I know that's not always possible.

Thanks for the quick response guys! He was hoping he would be able to just try a fan. Its very close quarters and the "heat" is a circulating fan as well.  Now if only he could be around when temps spike lol. Maybe he can find a more suitable work area. Will keep updated.  And maybe he can figure out how to upload lol  Thanks again!
