aka stuffed grape leaves I love these things... they are great appetizers or snacks...good finger/stoner food. here's a good recipe 1 jar of Whole Grape Leaves 2 onions, minced (whichever kind you like best) 1 1/2 cups white rice 2 tablespoons tomato paste (optional) 2 tablespoons dried currants (optional) 2 tablespoons pine nuts (optional) 1 tablespoon olive oil 1 tablespoon cinnamon 1 tablespoon mint leaves, chopped 1 tablespoon dried dill weed 1 teaspoon cumin 1 teaspoon ground allspice In a medium saucepan over medium heat, saut? onions in olive oil, until soft. Add rice and enough hot water to just cover. Cover the saucepan and simmer for 10 minutes, rice should be about half cooked. Allow mixture to cool, while stirring in tomato paste, currants, pine nuts, cinnamon, mint leaves, dill weed, allspice and cumin. Trim any remaining stems from the grape leaves. Place about 1 teaspoon of the cooled mixture in the center of each leaf. Beginning at the stem end, roll the leaf up over the filling, folding the sides of the leaf in, halfway toward the center. Leaf should be in a cigar shape and tightly closed. Arrange a few grape leaves in the bottom of a large pan, to protect dolmas from direct heat. Place dolmas on top of the protective leaves and cover with water about 1/2 inch over the top. Simmer over low heat for 30 to 45 minutes or until rice is completely cooked. Frequently check the water level and add more as necessary. When finished drain excess water...you may eat them warm but most prefer to stick them in the fridge and eat them cold. Drizzle some lemon juice on top. Some like to eat them with yogurt.

Cool, I've also seen them as "Dolmathes". Where can you get grape leaves from? I mean, if you don't have a vinyard.

sounds good .
i may have to try a variation on this when i get my hunting liscence for this year. i love stuffed quail wrapped in wild grape leaves. luckily, i live in california and this is a big vinting area so there are wild and domestic grapes everywhere.
