taping over injection site?

I have been using the PF tek and use micropore tape over the holes. My question is, after inoculation, is it a good idea to add another layer of tape over the injection hole? I recently have a higher number than usual get contaminated, even after flame sterilization, still air, glove box and all of the regular precautions I take. I was wondering if the holes left in the injection site by the needle could be the problem. Thank you!

You're injecting through the micropore tape and leaving the hole the needle created? If so, then yes, tape over that hole. Or lift the tape before injecting then push the tape back down.

Why tape? That's what the dry verm layer is for.

Putting micropore tape over a verm barrier is smart IMO, if you were to disturb that verm barrier while inspecting your jars, a contam can easily fall through.

To each thier own I guess. I've tried both ways and haven't noticed a difference contam wise. But I guess of you are picking up your jars 10 times a day looking for growth like a kid waiting for Xmas it might help

I would only use a single layer of microspore tape for the holes. you dont need to have tape on for PCing or for inoculation itself. its for after inoculation. the verm layer helps but if it is disturbed you may have a chance of contamination. I prefer the tape, personally.

point of the MP tape is to keep the dry verm barrier clean of mold spores before inoc'ing, if mold spores land on the dry verm you can push them into the moist BRF+verm mix with your needle.
after inoculating you can re-tape to keep mold spores on the dry verm barrier to a minimum. it isnt needed but can help since newbs love to pick up the cake and look at it, thus disturbing the dry verm barrier and allowing mold spores to fall into moist brf+verm mix.

It also really helps if you have a fly/gnat problem. Verm barriers seem to not do shit for them lol
