Walls don't grow they don't get misted. Mist the cakes. No one is clicking those Dropbox links.
90+ RH is too high. It only needs to be that high less than an inch from the surface of the cake. They need to evaporate

Yeah, upload to the shroomery, it is not safe for us to click those links. Just press on Pics at the top of the page under your name and press upload.

Ive read a couple of users on shroomery saying to mist the walls of the fruiting chamber to increase rh. Thats why ive been misting the walls
And been reading confusing directions that some say to mist the walls and not to mist directly to thw cakes because water will hurt the myc
Am i reading in the wrong areas or is some of this information true? And if it is or isnt true Can someone help me with the right and or more correct way to fruiting?

You can get the most up to date information by limiting your query to posts newer than x years.
I think it's old info that you can't mist the cakes directly.
Even read a thread where someone fruited bulk sub open air in 20% RH by misting the sub regularly.

Always mist cakes directly. They can't absorb water through humidity so it has to be direct. They get rained on outside, no reason not to mist them.

Yes. If you've misted too much you'll know because the entire surface will be wet. You want beads of moisture on the surface, but only just enough to glisten/shimmer. If you mist too little you'll know because the cake will look visibly dry and will eventually start to bruise.

Contaminants will enjoy it, the mycelium will not, it won't be getting enough fresh air. Evaporation off of the surface needs to be occurring at all times in very small amounts, but if the surface is too wet that can't happen and you'll start to experience other problems, ranging from waterlogged mushrooms , to no mushrooms at all, to unstoppable cloud of death spores if you really let it get out of hand.
Mist just the right amount as you've been doing.
For everyone's safety...

What should i look out for when the cakes start to pin? Ive heard of bottom pinning and that could rot if not removed Is there a way to aid in avoiding that from happening?

If it bottom pins you just let them grow out. They won't rot because they are rot, and they don't just abort from misting either.

Bottom pinning is not even remotely a problem that you should be trying to take steps to avoid with cakes. They won't rot, they'll just grow, from the bottom. Treat them as normal, don't worry too much about it. Nothing to be on the lookout for in particular, just keep misting til it glistens.

Now im just wondering about potency of the mushrooms ive read users saying that the potency is lower if you let the mushroom cap opens up and dumps spores? Is this true? Or is there such a thing as perfect time to pick?

crissel said: hi everyone, since my cakes are fully colonized now i started to read more about harvesting. There is one thing that confuses me. In a lot of threads people are talking about harvesting the mushrooms before their veil breaks to increase potency
And nobody has ever provided proof it does. If it does, it isn't noticeable to us through eating.

this is about the only reason to harvest before veils break.
Literally just posted this in a different thread 2 seconds ago lol.
