What do you guys do with your BRF cakes that you can no longer flush or ones that show contamination? I believe I read somewhere that you can bury them and produce a patch outdoors. Is that true? I haven't been able to find it and don't know the name of the tek. Does anyone bury their cakes and if so what is your method? I think straw or hay was involved. I have some that dried out and I think are dead, but I would love to get an outdoor patch going if I could. Thanks in advance!

I have some outside. I put a few cakes mixed with like coir Verm miss and hay, inside a uhhh you know those cinder blocks? Packed in one of those. I checked it the other day, all thick white mycelium in the middle. Colonized well. But no fruits... Not sure when to expect them or what time of day to check, but so far, no fruits.

Interesting. What is coir verm? Is that any different than they stuff you get from the gardening section? Do you break up the cakes? How much hay do you use? I am guessing then you don't bury them? Thanks!

Coconut coir and vermiculite. Coir is short for coconut coir. Its reptile bedding. Verm is vermiculite.

Mine aren't fruiting, so don't go off what I say IMO. My block has colonized, but yet to see mushrooms. and I didn't follow a recipe. Just use maybe a 2 cups coir, 1 Verm, and a handful of moss. Add in some worm casings, and put hay over top of the mix. Try it and see what happens. Didn't "bury" but the mix is about 6 inches wide by a foot or so deep.

coir= coco coir
Typically sold as bedding for reptiles in compressed bricks at the pet store or in hydro shops as a plant growing medium
verm= vermiculite
Typically sold as a soil amendment in garden stores

Sorry about that. Are you supposed to break the cakes up? Is there a tek for this?

Do you crumble them? Are the bricks buried? Is there a name for this tek? Thank you!
