Howdy folks, been a while since I have been on here. I was doing some grain to grain, today, and was thinking, Man, I should show this glove box off. LOL. I built it like 6 months ago, and I get a really great, success rate, using this thing. I can even due agar, in it. I don't know if any one has posted turning a sand blaster into a glove box. So I thought I would post it. I think it costed me about $150. Got the blaster at farm and fleet. Hope you all dig it. Much Love Roaddog....http://

Keep it classy! I like it. I especially like the "floor" that makes it very easy to keep clean. Good luck with all your projects.

Well here is the big difference. Before I converted a sand blaster. I used big Totes, with holes drilled into them. Well when using these totes, I would have to
have the air around me, completely still. Meaning, I would have to either turn off the air, or the heat. Which made doing Jars, in the middle of the summer a pain (a
very hot pain). Well with the blaster, it completely seals. It allows me to run the air conditioners, and fans, without giving me any, contamination as a result. I
just load the box, and spray everything down with bleach/vinegar mixture. Then I set the timer for 10 minutes. After the timer goes off, I do my inside the glove
box work, and redo this process over and over, until all the jars are done. Its amazing not to have to worry about the air being still. Much Love Roaddog...

I like it, but if I spent that much I'd want more space. Looks like you do 12 jars or so, prolly 10 with comfortable working space.

Inspired me to jump on CL to see if there were any. The exact one you have is on there, but the guy wants $400. I think you got a sweet deal.

Central Pneumatic is Harbor Freight's brand. You can get it for $114 HERE plus they always have 20% off coupons either on their site or by searching google which will help offset the $20 freight if you want shipped to your door.

How are you flame sterilizing? Inside the box?
Seems like a lot of money for something so small that's just a glove box, which is not as good as a SAB for this hobby.

Sandblaster... Genius! Nice glove box man. I'd build one if I came across something similar for a good deal. For now, SAB it is.

I agree it looks way too cramped. Not sure how you flame sterilize, and you don't want massive material around your arms moving air around, especially in a small space where it's easier to move air around. It would work great if it's sterile in there, but I doubt that it is..
I mean A++ for effort, and if it works for you, great! But unfortunately it would be far from ideal for me.

I dont flame sterilize anything. I used to maybe 10 years ago. But, I personally only found, that all it really did, was make my syringe tips go bad quicker. I'm
not trying to tell any one not to flame sterilize. I'm simply saying I do not. I think its an experience thing. I find as long as I do, everything else right,
then so will my syrings. But I might add, my syringes don't set around long. I make them, right before I need to use them. I make up 40 syringes of LC to 120
grain jars. When I am not doing grain to grain. But, I prefer LCs, because they are not as laborious. So, Needless to say, I have made several thousand syringes.
And haven't really ever had a problem with it. Although, If a syringe has been setting for a long time, in the fridge. I might spray the tip, with 91% alcohol.
I order all my spores from Hawkeye. And I have never had a problem with his syringes either. Meaning I don't heat the tips of his syringes either. Now,
again, as a disclaimer, I am not telling anyone to do as I do, on this. I'm just saying I threw the procedure of flame sterilizing anything, to the side, many
years ago. I am a firm believer in following a set of rules, for all beginners to start with. But, I believe a few of those rules, can be bent, or discarded all
together, after one has a few years of experience. And has conducted the proper tests, to verify, there change in procedure, to be safe.
Also, one could easily bring a small alcohol burner, for flame steralizing for those who still need to do that.
Also the box must be quit style, or I would have a contamination rate, and would definitely not be able to do agar. Which I haven't had any problems with. I use a
mixture of Bleach and vinegar, that I spray down inside the box. The box is sealed with a gasket. And all other entry ways have been sealed. Except for a
small hole, in the back, that is tightly stuffed with Polly fill. To allow some air movement, for when the door opens and shuts. Much Love Roaddog....

I like it cause it looks nice and has great visibility. Seems like it would compliment agar work. I tend to try to buy tools used, I bet one could find a cheap used and/or broken one off of a craigslist for a reasonable price. Thanks for sharing

You can easily change this into a SAB, if so inclined by using whatever you like in the hand holes and removing what's there, and possibly modifying the holes in the left side and whatnot so as not to create vacuum.

Yes, the air inside the box remains completely still, regardless, of air movement, outside of the box. I bought the box, without the sand blaster part. So all the holes are sealed, shut, and siliconed.
So It is a still air box. The only difference really is it seals really well. once you close and fasten the door, there is no airflow at all. Its like working inside a giant Jar with the lid on, and sealed arm holes.
Its really gotten rid of any green mold, that I occasionally got from my old glove box. My last one (That I used for many years) was made out of a cheap clear tote, with 4 inch holes made with a circle saw.
Then I just put flaps, over the arm holes. Which worked well too. But, I really had to have the outside air, very still. Couldn't run the air, or heat. Had to make sure the door didn't get opened, while I was working.
Nothing sucks worse, than having to turn the AC off in the middle of the summer, just to inoculate jars. But with the sand blaster box, it doesn't matter, what the outside air does. Much Love Roaddog....
