Cannot shake ma bags, myc is too meaty
    #23161724 - 04/27/16 03:00 PM (8 years, 8 months ago)

Hey guys! About cubes.

Sometimes everything is fine, but sometimes myc gets really tough. It's meaty and kinda forms a firm cake. When I try to break it, grains there are easier to break than the myc flesh.

Why this happens? How to avoid it?

Maybe humidity is too high?

Cheers.

It's probably due to being colonized for a longer period of time, thus, creating a harder, more compact sub. Shouldn't matter as long as you can break it up, which should be fairly easy if you're doing a transfer.

Other than older spawn highly bacterial spawn is hard to break up.

bacteria can lead to contams, it weakens the myc and makes it not wanna recolonize properly.
Some bacteria is normal, almost everyone has it to some degree, severe bacteria like it sounds you have is no good..
post a pic if you got.

Ok but the myc was like that even when I was using antibiotics (I know they are bad, and I don't use them any more).

So maybe it's meaty for some other reason?

No pics, sorry.

It's a white healthy-looking myc, not very rhizomorphic though. After spawning it fruits like a god, and everything is fine, it's just firm and meaty and I'm curious why.

Antibiotics make bacteria in grains even more likely than not using them in agar, so that's not necessarily a measure.  Gonna need pics to know for sure.
