MadSeason, FeedYourMind and Spacechildo are all trying to tell you something. The cake is dry. Your mushrooms are going down to the Perlite because they are thirsty. You see how all your pins are at the bottom? It's because that's where they're getting the microclimate they need. If you wet some verm and put it around it, and mist often you can probably still get a good flush out of it.

man, i dunked mine for 24 hours, then put them in proper SGFC, with 4.5in perlite, and mist them every time they seem dry, which ends up being about 3-5 times a day, and then once mine start to pin, i put them in a small saucer/lid of water to sit in, to pump into the fruits(which they definitely use, since i notice the water is either lower or almost gone when i go to change it dialy) and my ckaes still end up pinning and fruiting more on the bottom of the cake, near the water.. haha, i guess maybe i need to mist more? although i think if i did it any more, it would be detrimental. i mean i get some pins in the middle and some sorta near the top, but all are on the sides, never the tops, and most form near the bottom/lower-middle. meh oh well =p guess i just need to tweak something.

That's pretty normal, Mupet. You'd really have to cover the sides if you wanted it to fruit on top.

Or be this dude, he got some nice top pins. It's just not so easy IME. I tried burying trays into the perlite of the SGFC and everything. Used the verm casing and everything too. I guess cakes just tend to need more babysitting than I'm able to do. https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/23177265#23177265

My shrooms are not growing towards the perlite, but upwards. I was worried, that the shrooms would grow towards the perlite, if the cake was turned.
Should I just dab some vermiculite on the cake? Should I take it up, to do so? or can I let it sit in the sgfc? Would it be benefitial to turn the cake?
Thanks in advance

I just noticed that the big shroom has grown over the top, so turning the cake around, won't we possible, unless I harvest the big shroom :p
And I'm actually getting a bit worried now, because the stems of the shrooms are changing color :O Also the green on top seems pretty bad :/ Is this cake dying?

Could i harvest it all and try to dunk it for longer this time? Doesn't the big one look like its ready for harvest?
 Thanks in advance

I just did it. Harvested the big shroom and a small one, which was connected.

I also turned the cake around.

And started dehydrating the shroom.

Please tell me, if this was a horrible idea.

It's okay that you harvested them. There's that bruising again. That color change is just from drying out. You really should wet some vermiculite and put a layer of it on top of the cake IMHO.

Okay, I'll buy some verm on my way home. Should I wet the vermiculite, before applying to cake, and shoul I apply to all side or only top?
Thanks a lot

So I made one more drastic decision. I harvested everything and dunked the cake again. Now, I'll let the cake soak for a longer time. Any recommendations?

Well, I would have let them grow up a bit, but anyways. Dunk it for maybe 16-18 hours. I'd keep it less than 24 though. Make sure it's weighed down so it actually absorbs all the water it can. Roll it in vermiculite on all sides.

3 or 4 of the shrooms were beginning to break veils, so I thought I'd just harvest everything It's soaking in the kit container it came in, with a lid :P I'll roll it first thing tomorrow. It should just be in room temp, right?
Also, should I add more water, if it soaks a lot?
Thanks

Just leave it in the container, full with maybe a dish or something. It'll be hard not to spill some water, and if the cake floats, it won't soak as much. Room temperature is fine.

Would you also recommend rolling in verm? Should the verm be sterilized in the oven?

Dunked it for 14-15 hours and rolled it in verm.
Now I'm just hoping, that it will be better this time
