im learning the ins and outs of my acoustic, and i think ill start by learning some acoustic songs. Eventually, id like to learn to finger pick really well. Does anyone have any suggestions of songs i could learn to play in acoustic?

if you want to learn how to fingerpick on an acoustic, you cannot avoid "Stairway To Heaven". It's just a necessary step every guitarist should go thru. others: "Over The Hills and Far Away" - Led Zep "Amen Omen" Ben Harper "Flake" Jack Johnson "Heart of Gold" Neil Young "Burn One Down" Ben Harper "Fade To Black" Metallica "Carmine St." Kaki King ... hahahahaah just kidding.. Any Dave Matthews song really helps, definitely "Say Hello, Wave Goodbye" David Grey "Gone" Jack Johnson
Good luck!

WHAT!?!?! Nobody has said Wish You Were here by Floyd yet. And once you get skilled at fingerpicking, look at Is There Anybody Out There by Pink Floyd too. David Gilmour could only play it with a pick, so he had to get some spanish guitar player to play it on the album. I also like to play Yesterday by the Beatles. It's pretty simple fingerpicking. Definitely the Stairway to Heaven intro. Blastrid: have you found any tabs for Kaki King? I'd attempt to tab out one of her easier songs, but I'm not any good with dynamics, plus I'm not good at all at figuring out alternate tunings (I think she uses DADGAD primarily maybe?). Have you seen her brother Justin play? There's some cool videos on his website, www.justinking.com I think

supposedly, a few of Kaki's tunes are transcribed in "Guitar Player" magazine, but I haven't gotten it yet.

For fingerpicking I'd recommend Blackbird as well. Just take your time with it, make sure you use all the required fingers instead of using your thumb you jump between all the strings and go SLOWLY. Red Hot Chilli Peppers have some easy songs for the accoustic, Under the Bridge comes to mind. Oh, Ripple by the Grateful Dead is a great accoustic song, pretty easy too.

since i already have a blossoming accoustic thread, ill just throw another question in:
I need to buy a new set of strings and was wondering what type of strings everyone uses on their acoustics? Do you have a favorite type in particular?
My strings are a bit old and its hard for me to form certain bar chords, though its a LOT easier to play on my electric.

some suggestions i could throw out there would be:
nothing else matters - metallica requiem - opeth roulette - system of a down and finally, to bid you farewell (at least the first few minutes) - opeth
i don't know anything much about acoustic strings, but when i buy for my electric, i go with vinci's.

D'Addario's are good too, I use those for electric.
Martin acoustic strings are nice and smooth, but a little more expensive

I use Elixer Polywebs. I've heard people complain about their tone but they last a long time. If you are just playing by yourself I would get a set of these to try out. If you are playing with others I would try something different.
