Fire and smoke damage advice =/
    #23133114 - 04/19/16 01:16 AM (8 years, 8 months ago)

Today my room on the opposite side of my colonization closet caught on fire.

I left a candle burning on top of my desk and my door open the one time.... I always flip out if the cat gets in my room because of whats good... I cant blame the animal for being curious for going in a room it isn't allowed to go in and knocking something off thats shiny at the highest point on my desk.

My best friend and I went outside for 5 minutes so he could smoke a cigaret and the smoke alarm....

Anecdotes aside and many 1st degree burns later, My entire collection of tupperware, extra jars, plastic lids, Synthetic filter discs, self healing injection ports and bags along with 6 mono tubs were burned up quick =(

Thank goodness it didnt actually destroy anything that was worth real money in my room.

However, many of my WBS bags expanded to the point of almost breaking seal.... im wondering how hot the core really got... the fire was about a 10 minute max ordeal and was a plastic fire.

there was A LOT of smoke!!! a lot. All of my jars are done with .2 or .1 micron synthetic filter discs with plastic canning lids 1/4 in for GE and 1/2in for port sealed with silicone and the bags have micron patches there is no half assed GE in the entire closet.

im worried.... should i just trash these? I tore up all the carpet in the room in less then 2 hours I doubt any mold set in the room, only one small portion was carpeted anyway. i know this would be easier with pictures but i just don't want to upload them because of Geotags i understand how paranoid that my sound but i can find anyone's geographic location quick from it i doubt others cant. I run 2 mid sized HEPA filters in the room, they never went off. The carpet is dry at this point (6 hours after fire) I treated the wet carpet with a small bleach distilled water solution and washed down the walls.

Should i just re start and trash all of these jars/bags? 35 to 50 jars and 5 4 qt WBS bags many many hours of labor, or see what happens? I dont think any bacterial bloom/mold would escape the filter discs but im not an expert by any means.

any advice would be very helpful =/

Im just very anxious and concerned...

The fire didn't make any of us sweat just a lot of smoke. My temp gauge in the closet never got over 94 -95 and was at that for about only 5 to 15 mins when all windows were open and the rapid cool down happend it descended down to high 70s quick.

I'd wait and see what happens.

Yes I would just wait and see what happens before tossing anything. You're very lucky you were able to put it out before the fire department was involved

this op is in a place where no one calls the cops or eme period... no one knows anyone's business here everyone keeps it that way. People here may seem rude as fuck but only if you don't value privacy as they do.

Had 4 neighbors ask permission first Its not the hood but its not the suburbs you know?

terrifying experience honestly...

Na man.. without going into specifics if the fire was 10 ft in any direction The entire neighborhood would have known whats really good with something or another if you catch my drift. humbling experience. Bunked almost a quarter griz of my fluff....

Aside from my losses, I should be good to keep this in my cleaned room? Im thinking the discs are enough i just wanted a little re assurance. the bags were expanded REALLY FAR, one of them is letting out air a bit from the seal... maybe toss that one? 1/5 bags not so bad ? =/

I'd put a piece of tape on the one letting air out, it might still be salvagable, you'll know within a few days.  Smoke particles are much bigger than spores, there's no way any got past the filters themselves.

Smoke particles aren't much bigger than mold spores, actually.  They're about the same size--that is to say, there's a lot of overlap between the particle sizes for spores (3-40um) and synthetic materials smoke (1-50um).  But I doubt the smoke would harm it.

OP, I like your security consciousness, but know that Ythan is even more security-conscious than you.  Shroomery automatically scrubs all the EXIF data from pictures uploaded here.  No geotags can survive his wrath.
