Fuzz on the stem, or even the cap, is from too much humidity. And sometimes it's unavoidable (genetic propensity) on the lower stem like in your photos. Don't worry about it.

And people eat mushrooms that have dropped spores all the time. They just taste worse.

:whathesaid:

the general consensus is to address the fuzzy feet by incerasing FAE [fresh air exchange]; just keep a sharp eye onn your sub surface conditions and avoid letting things get too dry.

I avoid taste issues [and MS variations across harvest] by grinding and capping them.

My friend is currently looking for effective ways to knockdown cobweb mold that is growing in a 12qt hpoo/coir/straw monotub....

Said friend has totally encouraged airing out of said tub by pulling all polyfill and sometimes removing entire lid as well as supplementing surface moisture occasionally with 3% hydrogen peroxide/distilled water. 20/80.

Tub had the classic cobweb smell upon opening.  Very rhizomorphic mycelium growth throughout as well tho... strong, potentially outpacing culture being observed.

My friend hopes to still be blessed by this tub, anyone know of effective ways to help subdue the cobweb while still creating ideal pinning conditions?  Friend is considering diluted white vinegar applications although I am advising him against this...

Hi

I'm new here and it's my first post.
This is my first attempt with agar. Can you tell me if all 3 dishes are contaminated?
On 1st picture I put a piece of shroom, 2nd and 3rd are with spores.

Thanks for your help!

It looks like there’s a spot at six o’clock on pic #3 that you might be able to transfer from. I would try it. Why not.

Thank you @Enjoil will do. And if that won't work I would need to invest in a hood

Maurt you should be sure to cut the butts off to remove the remaining substrate before dehydration.

Could someone tell me if this is a contam? First time growing.

Started seeing this growing through the coir casing layer the day after mixing colonized BRF cakes with coir substrate in the shoebox. It's slowly spread in the last week since. Started out really white and fluffy and has since grayed a little.

Help please 🥲. Here's the other shoebox that started pinning. Same white fuzzy stuff in this one.

Visually it looks okay, but one day to see fuzz in the top layer is unheard-of fast, and fast usually means mold. At one day I normally only see grains fuzzing up (if I can see any grains at all that aren't covered by the top layer). But the pinset looks healthy (though contams sometimes cause early pinning). I think yours is going okay. It's just fast for some reason.

I did let the jars colonize a little longer than I was supposed to. I had family visiting when they were 100% so it was about a week later when I shredded them and mixed with coir. Is it possible that sped it up? I also did it first thing in the morning and noticed the fuzz starting the next evening. Thanks for the response

This birch log is inoculated with lions mane mycelium plugs 4-5 months ago. Would you guys just throw this away? Contamination has spread more than the mushroom.

2 out of 4 tubs now have shown small trich spots, gosh dangit :frown:

These were comming along beautifully and looked promising.

QUESTION :

What is the safest way to expand spawn?

Agar > grain > G2G > tub

Ive been making 500ml LC jars, and knocking 20 grain jars with that.

I'm pretty sure this one fruit body is just a bit old, but can you guys confirm that this doesn't look like contamination? The rest of the cake looks fine, no foul smell

Yeah you're fine dude. Just slightly overdeveloped. All of the mushrooms in those pictures need picking.

You want to harvest ideally before the cap starts to flatten out and the veil is starting to break where the stem and cap join as a bulbous type of shape. If you plan to take prints then let the caps open up.

Is this the place to post "Daily Contamination Photos"?

Anyways... figured I'd post these just for the record.
Out of... 24+ jars that I PC'ed (same day) so far only these three have turned into garbage.

This is one of the primary reasons that I started to PC my [whatever] well in advance of doing anything with it.  These suckers were just sitting in the storage carton.  I -suspect- that the filters were not sealed properly.

What happened here?
I was waiting for those GT fruit bodies to grow some more but they stayed like this and got black heads. They been like this for over a week now. Maybe they are too dry? I FAE 3-5 times a day and the other cakes fruited alright.

Should I discard of the cake?

I think its just spores but im really not sure, whats everyone think?

Its been a fun tote to be honest. Baseball shaped fruits, upside down growth, even had one spiral two full revolutions.
