Looking good, I think, just the top one looks a little weird. You have a closeup pic?

That's cubensis mycelium I'm assuming? If it is it looks very contaminated.

Yo! Think I’m dealing with contams here..can anyone confirm?

All APE transfers stopped growing and has like a wispy gelatinous film
Surrounding mycelium transfer.(this was also apparent on MS plate, however growth maintained)
On other hand, all PE transfers are growing well but am still uncertain
As the mycelium appears to be an off white

If you mean the orange peel texture on the agar surface, I've seen that a lot on my own plates. The fuzzy mycelia always ended up following it. But yeah, some healthier looking mycelia grows without an advancing front of orange peel texture. I can't say whether it indicates the culture is weaker or if it's due to conditions.

Yeah the orange peel texture. What I find odd is the same texture is apparent
On MS germ plates but the mycelium doesn’t care, it’s running over it. Whereas
On transfer plates, mycelium hasn’t expanded at all really, like it doesn’t even want to touch it.

Pic with solo plate is MS germ

In pic with multiple plates, you can see the bottom left
Dish hasn’t expanded at all after 13 days

Mold or Bruised Mycelium? [Re: Kizzle]
    #27338683 - 06/07/21 11:54 AM (4 months, 6 days ago)

Hello!

I'm growing some GTs and they are about 1.5 weeks in the shoebox. I've had a few very large beautiful (and potent!) early fruits. Now a few days later where I harvested these bigger shrooms, there is a light green patch. It doesn't look as fuzzy as the other mycelium and I've never seen colored patches before. Is this mycelium or mold?

If mold, can I cut it out?

Thanks for your help!!

Big shroom

oh no...

Why is it only where I harvested them?

I was hoping it was just stressed out mycelium... :-(

@Yoguy that's trichoderma mold. Don't both trying to cut it out as it's most likely everywhere, you just can't see it yet.

From my understanding of trich, it usually stems from contaminated spores and it's common for it to show up in later flushes.

This is why a lot of use agar to grow mycelium and rule out any contams beforehand

@Lectric:

Thank you for the info!

I haven't had any first flushes in any of the boxes. These spots were where a couple of rogue mushrooms grew so I'm wondering if I could have harvested them another way than twisting them off?

I have one more box of GT and 3 boxes of Lucies that have not had any fruit yet. Are there any precautions I can take to prevent them from getting moldy?

One of the Lucies is full of little babies (pins?) and looks like it's going to be a great first flush, so hoping the mold doesn't attack!

Thank you for sharing your knowledge. :-)

Don't seek any causation between the fact that mushrooms grew there. It's irrelevant and the reason you have it is because your spawn wasn't on point for a variety of possible reasons.

Can anyone please tell me if I should bin this? It’s my second time round and I’m worried I might have contaminated LC. Everything starts off well but then I start to see a very slight green color develop in a few small spots. I also dont see distinct rhizomorphic growth but rather a fussy/fury growth with some root like growth in areas. There is also no bad smell. Any help or advice would be really appreciated.

You can't spawn that. It would be like inoculating the substrate with a mix of mold and mushroom. Though I'm not even sure those jars contain any mushroom mycelia. As you said, it doesn't look right. (But I'm still getting a sense of how mycelia should look.)

Yeah thanks for the feedback, I guess I was hoping for a miracle. Think I’m going to have to make some agar plates to see if my LC is bad. It looks good but I keep getting the same result. Still not going to give up. 🤞🤞🤞

Normally a contaminated jar could be caused by the procedure, but they don't normally turn green as far as I know. So you're probably right about the LC being off. Unless you wiped an injection port with a sponge from your sink or something.

You also can't judge LC by looks. I mean the best, cleanest, whitest most pure looking LC can be garbage, and probably is garbage if you're judging by looks to begin with. Also the fact that you have LC but don't have agar is backwards and means you have spore LC (garbage). LC before agar is like throwing a lit match in your fireplace and then going outside to find wood to throw on it.
