Recognizing and dealing with contamination [Re: Kizzle]
    #27237139 - 03/04/21 04:35 PM (10 months, 13 days ago)

https://https://https://https://Bare with me I'm new to forum's and mushrooms lol but I have a possible problem with my first go at fungus and not sure what's going wrong if anything. Everything went perfect up to fruiting. So trying to keep this short, I inoculated grain spawn with online syringe that took about two weeks but great smell went perfect with no contaminate. The I bulk spawned into coco/perlite/vermiculite substrate into 5 quart about 2-3 inch deep, then covered and let sit 10 day to two weeks. Opened two of them up (did 5 total atm) at 10 days and they looked perfect nothing weird other then what seemed to be a clear film over some parts and seemed a bit wet, after a day or two I noticed some discoloration and tossed both. Cleaned everything top to bottom them opened up then other three at day 15 and 3 days in I'm not sure if its contaminant or bruising after some research and still worried. And comments or help would be extremely appreciated. Thanks all I'm gonna try and put pics up but cam is iffy at best, and dry for long post if I should be somewhere else posting please help me please and thanks

Hard to tell from those pics? Is that a UV light? They don't need UV. As far as I can tell they look bacterial. Post some better pics. As far as the source, they bacteria probably came from the syringe.

Thanks for the quick response. They are led lights cool spectrum (almost no uv per company test) but I'm not sure if its my camera or the lights or both cause I thought the same thing. Ill try and get better pics when I check on them soon, I took those pics this morning. Curious what makes it look bacterial? Not sarcastic just looking to educate myself lol. Sadly I didn't label this batch but the next one's are labeled and are from different syringes, so if that's the issue it should be solved. Assuming its not the syringes what would be next on the list? Cause from rye to now I've had no smells or other colors and have been extremely careful. Last question lol if it is bacteria should I toss everything and clean and start over?

The mycelium looks thick and matted. That usually happens when there isna bacterial presence.

I didn't use a casing layer on these cause I hear mixed reviews but I'm gonna try casing the next batch. Here's more pics if it helps. Think I should just toss and clean up? Will they effect everything in the room?https://https://https://https://https://https://

I'm doing my first PF Tek Run and im wondering if this is just Mycelium or is this contamination. Would really appreciate some more experienced mycologists taking a look at it!

Can you really get worms from the air? I did these BRF jars of ATL 7. Was gonna grab some myc for agar and fruit from the jar, maybe save some for sclerotia idk.  But, I noticed 2 clear contam spots in one jar that weren't colonizing. Said fuck it let's see what happens. Few days later, whole thing is yellow and got worms everywhere.  How the fuck does 1 jar have worms and not the rest if they are all from the same batch noc'ed at the same time?

My guess is that's from fungus gnats.

Or maybe fruit flies but they like rotting fruit/alcohol.

if you have some old wine you can use that. You can get super fancy with how you make them but more or less just make sure there's not rotting fruit/veggies/fruits or sweet stuff out and they'll go away on their own.

However I'm not sure that these are actual fruit flies, especially if they've been there for weeks. My guess its they are fungus gnats, they look similar, especially if you don't catch one and looks at it closely. I suggest looking up both online. Also if they are hanging around any of your tubs, its fungus gnats.

No problem. Fungus gnats can be a pain. Last time I had to get rid of all the tubs cause they would get in through the polyfil. The flying gnats aren't the issue other than laying more eggs. The larvae which feed on fungus are the issue.
