No. Lol not intentionally anyway. But I am allergic to penicillin and I see that it can be common to have it growing.

oof yeah if you’re allergic to penicillin you would probably want to watch out for it molding one your tubs. idk how common it is to have it sporulate in tubs but if your allergy is severe it would be good to get familiar with that. if it releases spores & you were allergic to the spores it could be not good. i’m not fully familiar with penicillin allergies but i have a tree nut allergy so i understand how severe that stuff can be. but i would think fruits from a clean tub should be totally fine!! no cross contamination (in the food allergy sense lol)

Anyone seen anything like this before? It’s a piece of agar, clearly contaminated and I’ve been watching it for the last week or so and it hasn’t spread at all (that I can see externally), I’ll be spawning it to a ziplock and isolating and disposing of that section obviously, none of the other agar pieces that I can see are affected but it’s just frickin weird

That's going to likely end in tears. Good luck though.

Usually I’d see it spread pretty quickly and everything turn an off colour but I’ve never seen this happen before, that’s why I’ll just ziplock it and hope for the best.

I’m assuming it’s your profile picture you’re talking about. Pins are all aborted, the grey is contamination.. probably cobweb. Idk. Doesn’t really matter what kind it is. It’s fucked. Trash it and start over

In the last couple of years I haven't had much luck growing cubes. Regardless of the culture they do end up with peeling stems which is what I assume fusarium contamination......probably.
It's happening with Steel Magnolia as well. I don't get it with other species like that. Anyone having similar issues?

I will be trying again with bottles and getting in vitro fruits. I will be damned if I can't make this work.

I'm pretty new to this whole hobby and I'm not sure about contamination in two jars that I currently have. What do you guys think?
This first one is just this one piece that has discolored.

The second one is this clump at the top that looks different than the rest.

That's pretty weird having only one grain that won't colonize. I would try to remove it when you spawn, and spawn it by itself in a shoebox or something. The other one looks pretty bad. It's all right at the top, so I'm thinking filter failure. What's your filter situation? MAYBE you could dump out that part and spawn the rest, but no guarantees it will work out.

I think it's just aborts getting reclaimed by the mycelium. The substrate can get pretty gnarly after a couple flushes. I could be wrong, and it could be contaminated, but if it doesn't smell bad, I'd still be willing to flush it again.

Micropore tape over a hole in the caps. I have other jars that are looking quite good so I think I'll just skip this one.
