I'd be hard pressed to say for sure man, could just be really thick myc, could be bacteria. Might want to separate it from your grow area and wait it out a bit.

Is this contamination?

https://files.shroomery.org/files/20-24/188620988-20200611_092247.jpg][/url]

I am not sure how to post.  It was in a self sealing bag after inoculation.  It was fine for almost 2 months.  When should the inoculated medium be put into the substarate?

Thanks for the reply man. I dumped into trash as soon as F.3 pointed it out.

I got another one I'm wondering about. Just over a week old, no weird color to it, it seems. You think it's still healthy?

I'm new to this, so any information or advice is taken appreciatively.

looks good
what is the method of Inoculation?

and how did you get rid of the moldy jar?
there is some advice to be given on dumping the jars, you can open moldy jars underwater so the airbornes wont get released.

Thanks F.3 dude!

That bag was a new MS syringe. First time grower, trying to learn everything, but most of all patience.

Concerning the moldy jar I threw it in a zip lock bag and pitched it in the dumpster from disappointment.

What would you have done differently, if anything? I didn't know you could open it underwater.

maybe you did not mix it well enough and luckily its only thick growth, but looks quite soapy
best of luck dude. :hatsoff:

okay, I presume you watched a few videos how to do it, there are many teks and great people share their knowledge in this place.
I strongly suggest to start working with agar if you are doing from MS, it will take more time, but that is rewarding in expierence and a deeper understanding of this hobby.

all good mate, learning never stops.)

if you have a posibility to dump it in the ground that what I would do.

I had a mono-tub go green once, instead of messing around spreading spores everywhere, I took the whole thing and threw it in the dumpster.
Problem solved!

I'm sure its overkill, but I hate the idea of spreading contam spores all over my house.

Quote:

I wouldn't recommend this... what would the average employee or waste management specialist think upon discovery of such a foreign object? It is gone in your mind but it is now a problem for someone else! Also it is not appropriate to use others dumpsters, especially if disposing of illegal organic material generated in your spare time.

Thanks for the answers, how would you isolate the "tub" that is only a box with a lid, its the only tub in martha where it has good conditions of temp light humidity and FAE, but if it turns green i dont want all that spores flying inside martha.

I could take it out of martha and put the lid on but it wouldnt have any FAE, should i do it? maybe with the lid cracked? dont want to infect all my colonization room either. Please some advice

Its going to be okay room temp anywhere , just slower.

take it outside (as I understand a sort of a greenhouse) put the lid on as it has gaps in it, dont close it down completely if it has arms to seal it. just a lid on top.
let it colonize in a black trashbag somewhere room like a wardrobe. look for a cleaner area or make one. there might be too much moisture.

Right now I'm incubating a LC jar for some cakes in the next few weeks. And I planned to try agar in the next couple months. I've been watching a lot of youtube and reading as much as I can. The whole contamination thing I'm still trying to grasp, as I feel a lot of it is by experience. Which I don't have since I'm just starting out.

I'll definitely bury it in the ground next time instead of using my trashcan.

Thanks man:thumbup:

If you gonna use LC it might end bad, dont waste your time and money if you dont do agar. and check if its clean.
Rather do BRF tek and use your MS.
there are benefits of doing it this way, as it grows slower and gives mycelium a better start.

at the end use what you have and what you think you want to experiment with, practise is the way.

How do these LCs look, they look great spinning. I know I could check on agar but if somebody has some experience I'd love to know. inoculated on 5/24

Not sure but i think a lot of the strange mic that i though could be early trich are getting like a brown cap on them, hopefully they are pins, my tub is probably bacterial but it would be nice to get some fruits of it.

Those are just knots turning into pins. You're good.

That's likely what it is, but because of the sporadic growth down there where they are, I think you may have bacterial issues also. Next time I would recommend a garbage bag  liner for your bin, so the excess moisture doesn't hit the sides and bottom of your sub. Excess and pooling moisture is a breading ground for bacteria.

How did you pasteurize your sub before spawn?

I dont have a way to check temp for pasteurize so i sterilize it in the PC, i have read that pastywhite sterilize his subs so i did that. Anyways, i shouldnt be surprised its bacterial because when i post the jars here i have been told that. But i spawn it anyways because im a noob and want some fruits haha, have just make some agar and have some good millet jars colonizing, also love g2g, 4 days and some jars at 60% already

This was the spawn used for the tub, 2 of it.

Hi all,

I started to spawn these on the 31st of May

I was looking through the posts about contaminants and the mycelium seems to be quite thick so thinking it may be contaminated. Or are they ready to move in to a shotgun fruiting chamber yet?

There is also one that has some yellowing on the side, I was wondering if that is contaminated. If it is can I cut that bit out and still try to fruit the rest of the cake?

Thanks for any input/help
