Fantastic work Kizzle, stickied :congrats:

I would like to chime in that verticillium fungicola has been reclassified as Lencacillium fungicola to distinguish it from the verticillium species that attack plants.

Very nice work man.

Usually endospores are a problem in cereal grain and we deal with them via pressure cooking. If your inoculate is the vector then you either need to get new prints or start working with agar to clean it up. Actually agar is the better road IMO. At that point tho most people get pressure cookers and start with grains.

Depending on a few factors trich before pins means the spawn was fucked and the whole tub will green up in no time. You can salt trich if the flush is almost done to hold it off for a day or two but this early in the game means it's probably all trash.

You can hang on to it for a day if you want to be sure, it will probably be green in a day and you will know for sure.

Hard to say. If it's in every jar it's probably a bad syringe or bad inoculation procedure.

No it's done. Put it outside, it's compost now.

Just looks like normal SW penis envy blobs. They are common on the first flush.

That’s a shame. Blobs will get some decent size and are just as potent and good to eat.

Those are too dry. You need another layer of mp tape over the bottom holes. No contams that I can see.

Usually yeast on agar indicates sloppy procedure. Possibly having your hands over the plate could do it.

Looks like it’s pinning because the colony stalled or there is a competitor present. That line of separation in the first pic between the two colonies doesn’t look good and other ones look like they are either bacterial or the substrate is compressed.

Yes but the other one is more pronounced and looks like it’s walking off or fighting each other. This one is incorporating together.

Honestly they all look sketch af. Overgrown and compacted, the colony looks like it’s consolidated and done expanding. That’s why it’s pinning. The whole works is generally unhealthy. You will likely get some fruit but I would temper my expectations.

Hi everybody. First time poster here, seeking guidance. About two weeks after I inoculated my grain spawn bag I noticed what looked like the begins on mycelium but also saw some spots turning dark grey/black. Now almost another week later there is no mycelium, just more dark grey/black looking grain. Is this contamination?

That’s toast. Pitch it.

Hard to say for sure, I’m thinking it might actually be Lecanicillium fungicola which is often called “dry bubble.” It can be a major problem, never mist a substrate with Lecanicillium cause you end up scattering spores everywhere if you mist it.
