question about lighting
    #2312724 - 02/07/04 09:30 PM (13 years, 10 months ago)

Does anyone know what spectrums are covered under "aquarium lighting"? The reason I ask is because I have 2 four foot flourecant ballasts for lighting in my fruiting chamber. One ballast has 2 cool white bulbs and the other has 2 aquarium lighting bulbs. I use both of these ballasts in the same fruiting chamber and I've notcied that the mushrooms are responding better to the aquarium style bulbs. Not only are the mushrooms on that side of the fruiting chamber bigger and fatter, they are also darker in color (browner stems and reddish caps). I've read that mushrooms typically respond to the blue spectrum of light so I guess I was wonder if my results are typical. Thanks.

Hi, Mushrooms grow very well under blue spectrums. 6500k is a good range to have. If your buying light bulbs from aquarium stores , look for the ones that are best suited for salt water coral- which responds to the same spectrums as mushrooms.:)bluhoney
