innoculation
    #2312696 - 02/07/04 09:17 PM (14 years, 5 months ago)

My friend gave me a 500 mL water bottle that had a 10 cc spore syringe released into it. I was wondering if it would still be possible to innoculate substrate with this diluted solution of spores. If so, it would be helpful if anyone could give tips or ideas on how i could innoculate substrate with the water bottle of diluted spores, instead of using a syringe.

Are you sure that the water bottle he gave you was sterile before he put the spores in it?

Its pretty much the case that you would have to draw water from the bottle using a syringe and do it this way.  Diluting a syringe to about 50:1 is probably going to produce lousy syringes unfortunately.  I have no idea why your friend would have done what he/she did.

I would ask them if they have a method themself for this, its certainly a bit strange that they would give you this without an explanation.. are you sure this person is reliable, it sounds like a bit of a joke really. :frown:

As KnobieJunga said before, the most important thing is to first verify that it is sterile (and hence worth the trouble).

yes, the bottle is sterile. The reason the water bottle of spores was given to me was because it was an accident in the first place. But, i would like to give it a shot anyways,
thanks for the help so far.
