Fluffy Mycelium low humidity
    #23125620 - 04/16/16 10:03 PM (8 years, 8 months ago)

Ok so, first time cultivating and in the "incubation" process. I know incubation is "not necessary" but I'll call it that because that's the setting; in jars, in a warm, dark place. I believe there might have been too much rye in the jars and not enough water, as I have seen pictures of jars elsewhere and the water is visible in those jars. The ones that are being cultivated seem dry. The Myc is growing very slowly and is fluffy. The jars were incubated a month ago and still not even close to full colonization. I was thinking about sterilizing some H2O, then squirting some in each jar to up the humidity. Thoughts?
Increase intrajar humidity?

Could be a number of things, but a month is a bit long. Pics would help. We need to also know what your lids are like. How long ago did you first see myc?

I don't think shooting sterilized water in is a good idea under any circumstances.  It'll just pool and be a bacterial soup in a couple days.

My guess is your lids are not allowing enough GE.

I said no to adding water.

Lids are mason jar lids, 2 holes punched, foil covering. Myc appeared about 9 days in

No good, homie.  You really need a good filter material and open exchange.  Acceptable filter materials, in order of acceptableness (IMO):

synthetic filter disc
cellulose filter
polyfill
tyvek

So just take a piece of tyvek and stretch it across the top of jar, then screw on the lid without the lid top?

Put the lid on, the tyvek on top of that, and screw the ring on over the tyvek
