APC Live in Glasgow
    #2311258 - 02/07/04 11:28 AM (13 years, 8 months ago)

A Perfect Circle??.
Glasgow Carling Academy??
6\02\04.

Well I wasn?t into APC till I read about them on the on the shroom forums. I listened to A Thirteenth Step and was instantly hooked, especially to the bass and drums.
Last nights gig was changed to a smaller because as I wrote in an earlier post the UK
public are more interested in fucking fat pop idol winners than good music, infact most of them wouldn?t know good music if it jumped out their breakfast cereal and
bit them on the fucking nose.
We were upstairs which was crap, because having seen Primal Scream twice and Janes Addiction both in the downstairs standing area which was jumping, upstairs was like the fucking graveyard shift. I thought everyone would have stood up as soon as APC came on stage but the remained seated which was all wrong, I stood up a few times but some asshole behind me kept tapping my shoulder. I remembered seeing ACDC back when Bon Scott was singing upstairs at Glasgow Apollo and man that floor was rocking with everyone jumping.
We were all well searched before we went in and were told that at the bands strong request we were not to smoke or take in cameras, so I had to run to my car to leave my camera.
Missed the support, as usual but when APC took to the stage it sent out an awesome atmosphere, an aura type of vibe, I think every bands got one, well every band I been to see but I could tell this was a little different.
It?s not a big venue about 2000 I?d guess so it isn?t a big stage. The drums were on the right-hand side of the stage and on a platform 8 foot off the ground, Maynard was on another platform 15 foot off the ground and about 12 foot square with a post at each corner and I remember thinking it was like a gothic 4 poster bed. APC live have to go down as one of the best gigs I?ve been to, tight sophisticated
pure rock and fucking roll, awesome live a must for ALL music fans.
The Package, Blue, The Outsider, The Nurse Who Loved Me, Pet and The Hollow wait Thinking of You was also fuckin brilliant, all stole the show for me, so tight and in tune with each other. I managed to smoke the 2 joints I took in got right into it and even though the morons next to me sat like gravestones I head banged all night and played my imaginary drums.
It was a dark show, there were plenty good lights but it was a dark gothic style stage so even if I had got my camera in I?d never have got a good shot.
Maynard never showed his face all evening, not once did a spotlight go on him or the platform he was standing on which I found strange, I wasn?t desperate to see his face but I did think he?d have gave us at least 1 glimpse, but hey if he don?t want to it?s up to him because if APC can come across with a performance like that then he?s entitled to lurk in the shadows.
Excellent gig and us here in Scotland appreciate it when a band like APC comes all this way to entertain us.

wow, I can't wait to see em, more and more now...

Sounds like a kick ass show, Maynard not being front and center with a spotlight is typical--every time I saw Tool he was back with the drums, and Adam and Justin were up front. He alone is amazing to watch perform, you can almost tell by the way he moves how the music came about...

Those are all my fav tunes you listed, so I'm sure I'll have a blast come March (I got my tix in the mail yesterday!)

Great review

I'm glad you liked them. I have never seen APC preform, but I hope to someday. I gots no money now for a ticket, but that's okay. I'll see them in a couple years or whenever they tour next.

Does maynard always wear a wig when with APC?

Dude!!!! MAYNARD IS GOD. I know that he is not what makes the band but his lyrics are just so inspiring. I've seen TOOL and APC numerous times and it just keeps getting better. And like you just said he doesn't like the center. It's because he doesn't want all the credit like Fred Durst would do. He gives more focus to the band in general. when doesn't Maynard wear a wig?!?!

not only is MJK GxD, I AM MJK.

MJK is not hiding in the shadows,
he is operating a Magikal Engine.

the four-post platform is a Ritual Axis,
and MJK is focusing and directing
the crowd's massive energy (attention/emotion),
to his own (questionable) purpose.

wigs and costume are all part of the Working.
All TOOL performances are invokations and evokations,
of various Enochian / Masonic Daemons.

APC is cool as hell live. I saw them last year at lollapalooza, and I'm about to see them again next month with the mars volta. I hope after this tour Maynard gets his ass in gear and starts working on the next Tool album though.

Whether it is APC or Tool, I don't care, I like them both equally. They have given me so much insight in myself, the world, and spirituality. I can't wait till the next concert coming up in April, It's been too long since the last time I saw them. Even though it really hasn't been that long, it's just they are not here now!!!!!

i saw tool live... they were fucking awesome. Maynard had like half his face painted with some design but he kept his back to the audience most the time. They had some crazy video going the whole time. Despite the fact that Meshuggah opened for them it was one of the best concerts I've ever seen. I'm hoping to see APC when they come around

Cool Scotsman I didn't know you were from Glasgow? or just around about?

I'm techically in South Lanarkshire since the borders changed a couple of years back. Where was that gig, was it the Carling Academy? I've never been there, I'd originally heard it was the SEC and the venue was changed, I was put off by the SEC.. I wanted to see APC, but I really don't like it there... I ended up sitting for Radiohead and it broke my heart

I make my own stuff up, acoustic stuff influenced by bands like mogwai, jeff buckley, soundgarden.. and electronic stuff influenced by bjork, soulwax, dEUS, nin. I have been a massive Pumpkins fan for years as well.

You should come along to the Brunswick Cellars acoustic afternoon some time (sat 4-7) or Sleazy's monday night acoustic session if you stay around Glasgow!
