How's This WBS?

It lists sunflower seeds as the primary ingredient, millet as the second... But sure looks to me like there's more millet in this....
So thought I'd ask....

That has both the sunflower kernels and the shells... The shells I know will float and should be discarded, but I believe the actual kernels are good and should be used in the substrate.

it looks like your mix is the same as mine, where there is an equal mixing of white millet, red millit, cracked corn, cracked wheat kernels, and a small smattering of sunflowerseeds and various other seeds in the minority.

that WBS will be fine, as alcourna said the sunflower will float to the top - just strain those off, you don't have to get them all - a few won't hurt, but too many will fuck-up the program.

sunflower seeds w/ the shell have little nutritional value, they just take up space which is fine but i usually try for something with a little nutritional value, but hey, if it works for you......

You made it sounds like it will cause disaster. And what is your bases for "little nutritional value?" By "i usually try for something with a little nutritional value" you make it seem as if it has nothing. The only thing it does lack are Carbohydrates but has enough.

extravagantdream - hey, why do you want to pick at me ? i don't give a shit how or what you grow =- as i said whatever works for you. my jars seem to work better and colonize faster with less sunflower seeds. hey pack a fucking jar full for all i care, somebody asked a question and i was just trying to give them a little of my own insight.by the way, the shell of a sunflower seed has almost no nutritional value, it's the seed that you want. - look it up. alcourna - thanks for the info, i didn'tknow that.

Well, my friend of a friend is just straining the seeds now.... He soaked in 50/50 water/coffee for 12-14 hours (via 6T WBS Tek) .... He thinks he might just go remove some sunflower seeds to help drain the most water as he scours through it....
Seems the one thing people would agree on is that removing them won't hurt, so he'll remove the majority

Sunflower is fine it will give a delayed nutrient supply to the growing colony , the oils are not harmful . But IMHO due to longer time to colonize the SF the risk of contams setting in is higher . Try this mixture Milo , millet , and Rape seed , Equal parts of milo millett with a small amount of rape thrown in to act as delayed nutrient supply . Good Luck Trip n D

DSD- I'm not picking at you, I was simply stating a fact and trying to clarify your comment. Next time if you want to tell someone that You have better success without them, do so. Don't say that sunflower seeds as a whole have little to no nutritional value, as this is false.
And I never said anything about my methods

Sunflower seeds add lignin, that is a good thing for myc, I don't know how good or why, but it's said in one of the faq teks.
I take about 3/4 of the sf out, my WBS does not have much anyways.

WBS doesn't have that many SF seeds, so who cares, y waste time? Throw all that crap in your jars and colonize!
My jars colonize quickly,(2 weeks - ~600ml jar) it won't harm anything, or slow anything, so y bother taking it out?
Cheers!
