Thanks for the tek pasty, I made 5 plates and literally not 1 took off. I may not have used enough spores but then again maybe a ms syringe is not the best way to start this out.
I took a small piece of myc from the top I cut off a pf cake that I slurried and dropped it onto one of my plates and it has taken off beautifully.
I had a small spot of cobweb that I hit with a few drops of H2O2 and wiped out easy peasy.
Hopefully I'll have e good luck with my transfers once it is large enough to transfer.
1 of my plates I scrapped because of cobweb but the other 3, outside of my experiment, have been sitting 10 days are are still looking in good shape to be used as a sub to transfer on.
Agar is definitely the right direction for anybody truly interested in mycology and I commend you for pointing me in the right direction.

No problem man. Spores can be hit or miss sometimes. I will streak / inoculate a half dozen plates and sometimes some of them never take off. For germination you may need to increase the water content a smidgen. Results vary but if continue to try you will find success.

Well I know my sterile procedure is decent since only 1 got contamination, the small piece I transferred from my pf cake is doi great so I have 3 good plates Reade to be used.
1 plate is a great start for me at the moment and it's a good feeling just knowing that I'm able to start working with agar at all.

1 plate can be turned into 1000's of quarts of grain in the right hands. One plate is plenty to start yourself on a good track.

I always make tons of plates (way more than necessary) but when it comes to fruiting almost all of my spawn is made from a single (best looking) plate that was G2G'd to 10 - 15 jars. Each of those jars can be used to inoculate 10 - 15 jars and so on.
You could even skip the first step of G2G and make 10 masters with one plate cut into wedges. That way all of the first gen G2G can be from a legit master instead of a second gen grain transfer.
It never gets easy tossing the unused plates away since they feel like they have so much potential. I just don't have time to use all those genetics.

Pasty I'm pretty sure this is an albino
If that's the case I plan on using your pasty cakes to try and isolate the nice little genetic deformality.
Without this tek that wouldn't even be an option for me.
Thanks again!

It looks pretty dry. Check your perlite and misting regimen. Make sure your not fanning without misting first and if there is a fan in the room turn it off. Be sure the chamber is elevated at least 6 inches and that the perlite hasn't clogged the bottom holes.

All those are factors have been accounted for.
I did a 24 hour dunk and rolled in verm.
I had them in a closet with a heater that has a built in thermostat to maintain temperature but it also fans the heat out which I am sure dried them it a lot.
I'm moved my SGFC to a open room with no fan and I must and fan as required but I'm not sure how to rehydrate safely.
Any advice?

Sounds like you already know what you did wrong. Closets are not good and neither are heaters in the closet with it.

Yeah definitely mistakes but also learning experiences.
Do you have any ideas on how I could rehydrate them? Not to derail your thread oh course.

Well those mushrooms ain't too happy. I would personally just pick em, or clone em if you still want and then dunk the cakes and put the SGFC in the shower and soak it down. Then ditch the closet. Heater will work better for you if you heat the whole room.

Thanks for the advice Pasty!
I picked that small cluster and dunked again for 5-6 hours, as surely as the sun rises every day those little guys started popping up nicely.
Here's a link to my thread with pics so I'm not cluttering up your thread.

hope you get a chance to check it out and any more advice would be much appreciated. Thanks again!

Do the lids really need holes? Can't you just use them as they are?

You need to have that filtered hole so that the pressure inside is the same outside.
If you don't you get a crushes piece of glad.
Also, just to keep this thread going, wikidzon on grain-water agar. This is cosmicsheep's work. Can't take credit.

Just want to say to PastyWhyte how greatful I am for this tek. Just made some yesterday, and was my first time ever with agar. Super easy. If I can do it, then anyone can. Thanks Pasty. Very much appreciated.

Yep ran a single glad container with no hole just to see how bad it would be, smashed so bad I had to throw it away.
