I just received a shipment of "fresh" cubensis from a friend in the UK. I'm in the U.S.
This person had them wrapped in paper to absorb the moisture. When I got them, however, they were flattened like pancakes and the moisture had soaked everything and the shrooms are now dark brown and they look kinda bad. I've separated them all and am trying to dry them. While they don't look molded I wouldn't even know if they are worth trying once dried. Is it likely they have rotted? I have a photo if anyone is interested.
I'm sorry to say this but there is no way in hell I would touch them if I were you, if your friend knew what would happen to them in the journey, he would have wisely dried them.
Regardless though, a suggestion I think would be to tell your friend to definitely not send you anything again. You are talking about shipping fresh mushrooms internationally. A very bad idea, you will pay much more than it would cost to buy mushrooms on the street if you get caught.
