New very fast producing jar recipe!
    #2301868 - 02/04/04 05:24 PM (20 years, 1 month ago)

This recipe has consistently produced quick results with multi-spore injected jars. Strains used : Equador, PESA, Straph, B+, India, Mazatepec. Average temps 84-86 degrees in a home-made incubator.
Details:
1/2 pillow case fullChopped Wheat Straw
4 cups BirdSeed
As Needed Water
Vermiculite
Large Pot
Large bowl
Measuring Cup

Chop your wheat straw into 1 to 2 inch sections.
Place choped Wheat Straw into pot
Add the Birdseed
Add enough water so that it covers the birdseed by an inch in the pot
Cover pot with lid, leave small crack for air exchange
Heat to medium for 15 minutes
* Straw starts to tender up and seed start to swell slightly*
Turn off heat
Strain water off
Place mixture in large bowl
Mix in enough vermiculite to aid in keeping mixture from sticking( +/-) cup
Now add mixture to your favorite jars and pressure cook for 50 minutes

NOTES:
Leaving the jar lids cracked from the beginning for air exchange tends to dry out the mixture possibly due to wicking of the straw. Problem resolved using jar method where you use the jar lid rubber side up and keeping the lids tight after injecting spores until the spores have a good colonization of the mixture(about half way colonized)

Inncubating at 75 degrees resulted in slower growth of the mixture. Solved by increasing the temps and maintaining them in the lower to mid 80's.

Hope this helps:) bluhoney

7 days is fast on BRF. I guess it depends on how you germinate, inncubate and what you use as the substrate. I dont think you can really set a true date for everything to finish perfectly, there are too many variables. However the results are good to go in this case, However she has had jars take as long as 14 days to colonize and then some at 4 others at 10, some at 7, some that didnt germinate at all. But since she doesnt grow mushrooms , all information she writes is for entertainment only. Take the recipe for what its worth, it works, mabe not as fast everytime, but it is fast and produces results.:) hope this helps. bluhoney

The fastest by far Anno for my friend. I should add that the strains were purchased from a sponsor here . With this same recipe, my friend has decided to add in cottonseed meal. The ratios are being played with and she will let me now soon what the results are. Anno what she is trying to do is by using ingredients from different mushroom compost, she is hoping to develop a strong developing mycelia medium to use with multi spore injections. She is hoping to increase nitrogen and carbohydrates as much as possible. I will post her test results soon from various recipes for all to try:)bluhoney

It sounds like your friend's average is around nine days. I was going to ask if you happened to know what strain finished in four....stirring. Thanks.
