Mixing spore prints of different strains?
    #2308336 - 02/06/04 01:16 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

If you have 2 differnt types of strains and you made some spore prints, could you mix them together? or will that affect it? Could you mix them together if they both came from the stam strain? Thanks!

Thats awesome, did you mix the cakes after you innoculated them, or did you mix differnt spores all in one syringe? because i want to mix a few dark spore prints of mine all in 1 syringe, but they are of 2 different strains...anyone know if i will be ok doing this? Thanks!

from what i have read, if you inoculate one far with two different strains, they fight until the dominating strain takes over the jar.
so imo just make two syringes, more cakes, yummy!

kk thanks for the reply, ill use 2 syringes. I just thought it would be cool if you can mix the spores then have half come out one strain , and the other half come out a different one : P

From what a friend had told me some time ago, if you're doing a brown rice flower cake, and you wish to accomplish a duo-strain inoculation.  You would have to inject the spores on separate sides of the cake.  By inoculating the left side with one, and symmetrically doing the same to the right side with the other, you allow the strains to colonize and meet in the middle.  By the time they meet in the middle, there's not a whole lot of conquering prospects left.  This of course would work optimally with two strains that colonize at roughly the same rate, and doing it in a shorter cake container (not in a tall mason jar or anything of the sort).

The chances are pretty good since it's all the same species that the mycelium would merge into a common organism and the result would be a combination of all the genetics present.
