Long-term Agar Storage with Wood - Inquiry on words from RR

RR mentions mycelium in agar, with wood, lasting 5 years
Here is the quote:
Quote:
RogerRabbit said: Mycelium stored in an agar slant with a piece of wood inserted will last under refrigeration for up to 5 years. RR
I have done some quick research. Though I haven't been able to figure out what wood is optimal or what is generally adequate for mycelium in the context of agar. Haven't found any posts asking this question so I hope this will be a necessary beginning toward an accessible answer.

Plain, halved popsicle sticks and wooden coffee stirrers cost a fraction of a penny each and can maintain cultures longer than most people will be interested in the hobby.

Year old thread dude. And yes wood in slants is pretty much standard procedure if you're making slants you won't touch for at least a year

I didn't say you couldn't use Them before a year it's not like they need to age. But if you're trying to keep something less than a year on slant you dont need to bother with wood. If you're trying for longer you should.
Its all stuff in all the slant and agar teks and posts if you're more interested
