This is my friends first attempt using agar. She did the following:
Got 150ml of water from boiled potatoes added 350ml distilled water added 10ml honey added 9.2g AGAR AGAR flakes.
The above were placed in a quart jar she said, and allowed to pc for 27 min @ 15 psi. After the recipie was made, it was allowed to cool to 110F and then 6.5 ml of H202 were added. Before solidifying they were poured in to sterilized 4 oz Ball jars (WAL-MART 4$) over a HEPA filter. Anyone see any problems? Thanks,
Ki

over a hepa filter? what does that mean? a hepa filter blowy thinger? if so, sounds alright, sounds like alot of agar for those jars though. not that it matters.

Sounds good, my friend hasnt tried a honey agar tek yet, do you mind if she tries yours? Amyloid, your right, I think keyeghost used the hepa filter to reduce the bad stuff while she exposed the jars. bluhoney

Of course Blu, it is just a slight variation of the one in the FAQ, i definitely can't take credit for it. BTW, I just report for my friend, she doesn't have a net connection. In reply to Amyloid: Yes, she said it was done over a HEPA flow hood. Well I guess I will report back to report how things turn out. BTW, my friend also figured that was a bit too much agar for those jars, but my friend figures longer colonization can't do anything except invite more contams and potentially ruin the whole experiment. But hey, you win some and you lose some! Thanks for the replies! Ki BTW can anyone inform me more as to the process of caramelization: Why it is bad, what times of pcing are needed to achieve it? I searched the FAQ, but mostly found mumbo jumbo! Thanks

This is straight from "The Mushroom Cultivator" book p.21, ...Sugar in media will caramelize. Media with caramelized sugar inhibits mycelial growth and promotes genetic mutations...:)bluhoney

Hmmm thanks blu ... My friend has read about honey being used in AGAR recipies, as long as pcing was not too lengthy. So, we will see how it works out and report back!
Thanks
