I live on long island NY for a climate idea. One of my 1q jars broke while 50% colonized with some florida cube. The bottom half was stil intact and untouched. So i decided not to let it totaly go to waste and throw it out, so i dug a hole in a pile of sifted compost about 1' deep till i hit the un-frozen soil then poured the spawn down the hole. I filled the hole back up and covered the pile with about 1' of damp leaves from my compost. Now theres a chance it will get around 20 F on nights, do you think the spawn will live and colonize? In spring should i have a slight chance of a patch?

It will probably die.

Oxygen requirements, it will not get nearly enough, if any, oxygen to metabolize food. I think it's far too cold for cubensis anyways.

What about 55 at night time? Thats the coldest it will get here... and it will only get hotter as time goes on. During the day its around 65-70... do you think cubs will do ok?

Penalties against drug use should not be more damaging to an individual than the use of the drug itself. Nowhere is this more clear than in the laws against the possession of marijuana and mushrooms in private for personal use.

i don't think the cold will bit as hard as the depth gr0wer buried at. definitely too deep. think like a mushroom. when have you seen ps cubes fruiting from mycelium buried 1' deep? never have i.

OTOH, i have seen ps cube mycelium survive freezing temperatures and fruit within 6 weeks afterwards. bear in mind that mycelium, outdoors, on the ground, under leaves probably never experiences temps below 50F degrees or so when ambient temperature is ~28F.
