Shakeable no PC substrates (whole brown rice?)

I'm trying to find a substrate that will colonize with a very low rate of contamination that can be boiled/steamed instead of PC'ed.
I know whole brown rice has been used. Has anybody here had any experience with it, or any other no PC shakeable substrate?

Look into rye grass too... I'll see if I can get my friend to do some tests with it. Rye grass seems to be pretty contam resistant. Perhaps a soak, simmer and steam would work. no pc gtg... sounds cool.

I'd give a few recommendations. First, are you wanting a "shakeable" substrate so that you can use bulk substrates? If so, you can just use regular PF Tek jars and break them up, and use the broken up cake as spawn.
Cracked corn when soaked, rinsed well, boiled, then rinsed again, is pretty good, but I use a PC. I'm not sure that any grain would work, really. Read TMC where stamets talks about the millions of lifeforms living on a single grain of, well, grain. I just don't think that steam alone would do it.
Good luck.

I want it shakeable so it will colonise faster and only require one innoculation point per jar.
A PC only gets about 40 degrees hotter than steaming, BTW. Brown rice flour doesn't seem to need that extra boost. Why would whole brown rice be any different?

Since I eat a lot of brown rice and it takes 25 mins to cook I ritualistically reduced the kitchen to smoke atleast once a fortnight. Lately I have come across this fantastic technology called a timer, yet sometimes I still do not notice.

What happens if you just soak brown rice instead of boiling it?

I got brown rice on my grocery list. Next time I go to town I'll pick some up.

How could grinding millet make it so that it doesn't need to be PC'd anymore?
