dunking and fruiting bungled straw casing as a big cake?
    #2304253 - 02/05/04 11:59 AM (14 years, 3 months ago)

i've got this casing i made. the substrate is about 5 inches of straw and it's cased with coir with oyster shell. i messed up on the casing water content, and the casing run didn't go too well. the pinset coming up now (first flush) looks like i'm in for a pretty weak harvest.

my question is.... after this first flush, would it be a good idea to dunk the whole thing and just fruit it at a big cake?

i'm thinking that might work.

if you are talking about dunking the casing then yes many people do this. Starter featured the process in one of his growlogs....do a search. Also, how did u mess up the water? wouldm't the coir start to dry out and you could just mist as normal?

i made 3 tubs of straw. they were all cased at once. i made the casing far too wet and too thick. they all showed very slow, sparse, stringy growth through the casing. 2 of them got moldy. this was the third. to salvage it, i stripped off much of the the uncolonized excess casing material and let it dry a little. i crossed my fingers hoping that it would recover a little and stay mold free. it did, but you can't really expect a good flush after all of that.
