mods locking threads...
    #2298846 - 02/03/04 09:31 PM (20 years, 1 month ago)

specifically in ODD i think they should give a brief explantion of why they chose to lock it. most of the mods do but some don't and sometimes i don't really see why they locked the thread and i think explaining it would maybe cut back on other peole breaking the same rule (if they even broke a rule) and also the "why is my thread locked" posts. maybe they do PM the orginal poster i dunno cuz it's not my posts that get locked but still i like to see a reason so i can better understand what's acceptable and what's not and i think it would benfit others as well. i'm not critizing the mods they do a great job handling all the stuff in there

Its obvious that most of them are breaking the rules or not even valid topics for ODD.

your right for the most part but why was this locked?

http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat...;o=&fpart=1

granted it might not be a ODD thread really, maybe belongs in the pub or OTD but the people who would be most intrested in that might not even visit those forums and it's not a pointless "i took xxmg of this and i feel good" thread, it had a point and if anything should have been moved not locked IMO. it dosn't really get into street talk like locations and he wasn't asking potency of the hits or anything just letting people know to watch out.

That thread is now unlocked. It was brought to my attention by another Admin who just saw your post, and asked me if I knew why it was locked. I couldn't find a reason, but if the Mod who locked it wants to PM me a reason, then I'll be glad to listen.

I agree that, if the reason for locking a thread isn't painfully obvious, then the Mod/Admin who locks it, should try and leave a message. An explanation would be nice, but at the very least make a *click* post, so we all know who locked it. I know that I don't always have time to do this, but I do try, and so should everyone else...

Since your a regular in ODD you will notice that I have been closing alot of threads latelt. I think you'll also see that 99% of the time I give a reason the thread violates the rules, a notice the thread is locked and if possible some pointers on were to find the answer.

I did close that thread last night though. I did not have time to post why because my wife was yelling at me to get off the computer as I was suposed to be puting my kids in bed. I figured people would figure out why. I realize its kind of a grey area, but in reality its a blatent sources thread and a drug availability location thread(even though the location is mobile). I realize in the past there has been discussion of this topic in threads on LSD. Those threads didn't start out as that though. This one is basically saying whats the drug availablity and price at a certian location.
I'll let the admins decide if it stays open or closed.

Since you have discussed this with me in the past few minutes, I now understand your concerns -- that those types of threads degenerate into source/price/location types of threads -- and you do have the trust and confidence of the Admins, so go ahead and close it...

I would also like to state that if anybody gets their thread closed or doesn't understand why I closed a thread you can do a couple things. First you can ask here and secondly you can pm me and I will explain why if you need further clarification than the post in the thread.
As you have noticed I have been closing alot more threads lately. I have been pretty leniant with certian kinds of threads in the past, but I am seeing that there are so many violations of the forum guidlines. As I stated in the sticky post in the froum(it will be up a couple more days) we need to all start watching the rules and making sure rules are followed.

Again feel free to pm me if you need clarification on a certian thread or interpretation of a rule. Also if your unsure wether a certian thread would be unappropriate you can always shoot me or another mod a pm and see if its
ok before you make it.
peace

I do my best to put an explanation of why i closed the thread. Either in an edit, reply or i PM the person. The times i do not do this is when the posts are just terrible and not warranting any comment.

you guys do a good job explaning why a post was locked but just sometimes there is no explanition like with that post me and a couple admins didn't see where it broke any rules but what china said makes sense and with threads like that it's good to have an explantion so I and others know not to post those kinda threads.

I had NOTHING to do with this... all the posts I lock are closed with no warning due to valid and blatant rule violations.

not in odd, but in other forums mods lock posts that i would like to reply to, and recently some posts are locked without the thread starter's question answered.

"A human being is part of a whole, called by us the Universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings, as something separated from the rest--a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circles of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty."
