Check out this technique for setting up your fruiting chamber: Basic Principles of the Shotgun Fruiting Chamber (SGFC)
Also, I always try to steer new people away from buying pre-made sub jars. Hopefully they're from a reliable source is all I can say. In the future, know that it's relatively cheap and you can make them yourself without the need for a pressure cooker. That method is known as PF Tek. Check out the vid below for instruction in regards to that. Good luck!

Friday April 1st: Inoculated jars -attempted to make a glove box, in the heat of the moment I realized I couldn't see as well as I thought I could through the plastic. SO...I pulled each jar out, inoculated it and put it back inside as I am using it as a incubator. -Ordered jars from MW a reliable source but my only concern was I did not see a noticeable top layer of verm on the top? The whole jar seemed to be of the same consistency...
Sterile Techniques: -Cleaned room and bombed with Lysol -wiped everything in my room and my "glove box" with Clorox wipes -wore rubber gloves -Used alcohol pad that came with spores to wiper after every injection hole -laid glovebox on a towel and sprayed with Lysol -tried not to breathe lol -had a helper with sterile gloves hold syringe every time I needed two hands
Temperature: 80 degrees -window open if heat gets above 80. I live in the peak of the house and its starting to get warm out.
If anyone see's anything that stands out that has to be fixed, feel free to lend some advice. I left two holes in the glove box/incubator and plan on letting some air in daily.

Don't stress , I usually check like 3 times a week max and more frequently as the colonisation gets towards the end... Can take up to 7 days to see anything.

You'll see faster growth if you just take the lids off the jars man , the dry barrier of Vermiculite is all you need

whoa. simple holes in the lid allow GE. the dry verm layer is nice and all but its still not 100%

Lol just a suggestion.. unless your living in utter filth the dry Vermiculite barrier will keep anything out , I never have my jars with lids on they are stored in a large plastic tote or a cardboard box , have had 2 / 40 jars contaminated... Your choice just my 2c worth and also I get full colonisation from MS in 20 ish days..

Nice man. I guess I just go with the tried and true. Although I do have 1 jar going without a lid as it is a glass. I was gonna try to do something neat with a no lid scenario, but I will have to test a few things before I try it.

What if you plant a seed after the mycelium kicks off. this could possibly prevent bacterias as the plant and the mycelium may build a symbiotic relationship. Or it could make a contamn. Only one way to find out!
Fresh air + dry verm layer + somewhat colonized mycelium + seed + sunlight = win?
Let them take off then place the plant into soil and the mycelium starts holding everything together like it does in nature. You could probably plant an elm tree with morel mycelium and do those inside this way. And when it gets to big for inside its time for it to go outside. You would almost want a room that fluctuates temperature to match the outdoor temp as to not shock the mycelium and the tree when it goes outside. I think I will try this and post it in a different thread. Once morels pop up here I will post results

I agree, I wouldn't trust the dry verm barrier on it's own even with lids with holes. The only time I used cakes I used micropore tape as a precaution.
Taking off lids is a great way to dry your cakes. I'm not saying you should stop doing it but reccomending it to newbies is not nice IMO.

Kangaroo manure.
No surprise there ain't no teks/grow logs here that uses that.
I will most definitely watch any grow made with roo manure. I love novelty shit. No pun intended.

DAY: 13
Everything still looks great in all 12 jars, am I getting to the point where I should feel safe about not getting any contam? I was very anal about my sterlization procedure and have much confidence in it. I know that the longer the cake goes the more of an immune system it builds. Just not sure of how that time frame goes.

i mean, i am pretty sure contam can show up at any time, honestly. and while the myc gets stronger, i saw someone make a brilliant comparison of the process. it went something like: you can never be 100% sterile. It is like a race, the myc vs the contam. And what we are doing is trying to give the myc a head start, so that it can eat all the sub before any contam can show up and start eating it too.
What i am trying to say is, no matter how much myc there is and how long it has grown, contam can still show up. and with time, contam has more of a chance to gain a foothold.

I tried to get a good picture but one of my jars may be contam? All of my jars are really rhizmophoric and only one of them looks different in one spot. Instead of looking like a bunch of veins it's just cloudy looking? Maybe its fine but it's the only one that looks different. You can see on the left side of the jar it looks normal.

yea the only thing I could imagine it being is cobweb but doesnt really fit the description. whatever we'll see what happenes. Another thing to is that it seem like all my myc is just growing on the outside of the glass and not really making its way into the substrate.

Day 18
Myc is starting to make its way to the bottom of a few jars and has completely covered the sides of those same jars! all seem to be pretty much moving at the same pace.

Next thought. as I birth these cakes I want to instantly start reusing my jars for the next batch. could someone drop a link with the best method to keep this going? Ive seen someone use a piece of myc and drop in a jar with sub in it. Should I wait for spores? just looking for a little direction on the simplest way. I dont plan on ordering any more spores if there isnt a need to.

After the dunking process you may take a brand new needle and make and LI (myc) water by stabbing a cake few times and pushing myc into clean distilled water and breaking up with water jets .

nah, room temp is fine, no fridge temps occuring naturally for a subtropical species and no benefit from it.
rinse the cake well before and after the dunk. and dunk full 24 hrs. and www.mushroomvideos.com if you havent already.

give them 7-10days after full colonization before birthing, unless they start pinning, that means they're ready to go.

Looking good! May take up to two weeks to fruit, but you should have some sweet babies in no time.
Hardest for me was always to just keep humidity up. I learned more frequent misting with fewer sprays helps. 4-6 times daily with mild fanning right after. Evaporation is one of the biggest pinning triggers, also 65-70 temps are perfect.
Looking good, good luck keep it up!

So today another two cakes started pinning so I have them dunked until tomorrow. A little concerned that my humidity is a little low hovering around 80% although over night it had a high of 90%.

the mushrooms arent really aware nor do they care if they are wet in a fc or in a bucket of water. you are right the shouldn't be sitting wet tho, but thats more days than 15 mins thinking..

My cake in my sgfc seems to not be as bright white today, really dull in color. im wondering if its to wet or not wet enough. I really cant tell. Not really getting the sparkle everyone says i should be looking for when misting. i spray the cake once on all four sides and really spray down the perlite.

P.Cubensis is tropical. it gets pounded with rain and water in nature. dont trip about the water on the cakes. if you have ever had differing temps inside vs outside of your pf jars you should notice a lot of condensation that stays the whole time until birthing. your cakes basically always have water on them..

Yeah but its different outside there is heavy rain but there is open air and wind you can't justify heavily misting too heavily the whole idea of a sgfc is that it will maintain FAE and high Rh from the evaporation of the moisture off the perlite.

Dog..
All im saying is it will be fine. im not stating you should drown your cakes constantly im saying the 15 min statement is bullshit and not to worry about water on your cakes. just dont spray them directly.

It's all about the consistency of the shat. To clumpy and it wont trigger pinning. Also wont produce enough FAE. I know this.
