a minute should be sufficient. think about it - you're moving 60 cubic foot of air in/out of the tub... and how big is the tub? probably not 60 cubic foot lol. you would want to run the fans a little less than you are suggesting i would guess, the idea is to keep the humidity high. would like to agree with the misting system idea, but at what cost? i think you would stand to save more power operating the system less to be more reasonable.
do you plan to make this fully automated and monitored? there's so much potential for this, very excite
I started with a minute, then two, I'm up to 3 minute intervals at the moment and still not drying things out. It gets pretty obvious when you don't have enough air flow and that's what I was seeing. Also, if you think about it the fan isn't running at 100% efficiency, with the filters, and lid on I would say it's more like 50% or 10cfm when you get down to it with all the air restrictions. As far as automation, I'm really already almost there, all I need to finish is the misting system. So far I'm going with an air pump, pressure vessel, and blow of valve to blow water through multiple nozzles at once. I have already made 3 of these lids, and am on the 4th flush with one of them so I know they work. I'll Snap a photo of them tomorrow before I harvest

The funny thing is, if you were to have just posted your idea and asked if it would work, you would have been run out of town with pitchforks..lol.
the critical difference, this guy actually went out and put it together and did it. and then posted a picture.
Thats actually a pretty stupid difference lol. Spitball nailed it.
Liloldme Don't forget there will be a small amount of air exchange even when the fan is off. I think there is a section in the mushroom cultivator that might help. The challenge is how many air exhanges can you or do you want to, fit into the space in between, without drying out the surface too much, or it being detrimental the the crop. I bet you'll end up doing something like 6 seconds every 15 to 30 minutes or something like that (edit: I did not think about air restriction from filters). My question is why are you doing this? It could be just as stealthy and not need a fan. Black tub with some black ez-felt over air exhange holes. Thats stealthy ain't it? You could battery power the leds. I'd recommend ultrasonic for misting since you are looking into automating that too. I'm not knocking the design though, and looks to have pretty good craftmanship as well +5

Thank you camplo! I didn't even think about black ez felt That's a good idea! I don't really need a stealth grow, I was just seeing what I could do that looked normal and still produced decent flushes

This should be stickied for all the noobs that try to make something like this and fail.
Keep in mind a filter isn't necessary. I would suggest having the fan blow air out, and having a few entry holes for air just above the substrate.

Thank you GreenRabbit! My cat is the reason I made these, he will pull Polyfil out of my totes almost daily(he loves to help). I originally was going to do what you mentioned above, but the thing is I'm lazy. This way they get filtered air, and my drill never gets used beyond fabbing the lid

Yea, my cat loves playing with polyfill, so I just use a monotub design that doesn't need polyfill.

Does your air still get filtered? I would love to see the tek you're using, I'm always down to learn something new.

No, you don't need the filter. The only reason I like that you use one is that is will lower the air velocity and not dry out the sub where the fan is pointed.
This is my setup.
Just monotubs with several top and bottom holes. I keep them open when I am home and make sure they are always properly misted.
