novice casing question....
    #2302354 - 02/04/04 09:24 PM (17 years, 2 months ago)

I am all good when it comes to cakes...but I am doin my first casings and was uncertain if I let it sit in the incubator until it starts colonizing the casing layer right? how long should this take? do I have to wait for mycelium to heal since it was a mycobag I crushed up? it was a solid brick of white prior to breaking it up. The first one I did 4 days ago and I am seeing no growth on the casing layer and it smells fine...I used coco-coir

let it heal in the incubator before you case it then after its all white and fluffy again case it and it should start poking through in 4 days in the incubator.

Yes you should let the casing colonize in the incubator at 84-86 F. Once some pops up, patch-case for even growth in the casing. Depending on conditions it should take ~5days. You don't have to wait for the mycobag mycelium to heal, since you'll be crushing it again to case it.
How thick is the substrate underneath the casing, and how deep did you apply the casing?
As a general rule 1/4 " of casing material is applied for every 1" of Substrate.
