I thought about that, that's why I put around 10-15 % woodchips in with the WBS just in case it all gets eaten. So far It's not squirrels I'm having issues with, but birds. They don't even eat the colonized WBS, they just use their beaks and punch little cone shaped holes in the woodchips looking for worms and bugs exposing the mycelium.

Sounds harmless.
sounds like they might even do natures work on spreading some genetics around.

Just a thought, if you are having problems with spawn being eaten by animals disturbing your patch, it might be an idea to suspend some starchy nutes (like brf) in water, then hydrate wood chips or straw or pellets with it. Then colonize it in sterile conditions. The nute boost should be great for the mycelium and you could use that as spawn. Animals should not be nearly as interested in it.

Just a thought, this is outta my comfort zone here.

Or set out a bunch of hanging bird feeders so they dont have to bother to dig around and look.

im putting stem butts to soaked cardboard.

After it colonizes should i put the Myc covered cardboard into a mason jars with WBS then let that colonize?

Then i go throw the WBS into my woodchips i want knocked up?

i hear sawdust particles are too fine, compact, and constrict airflow, stunting myc growth.

Maybe it could be used on a log you cover in pine sap, then stick tons of sawdust to it.
I imagine the myc may be able to grow onto and eventually into the log.
