I wanna kill and cook this goose at work. * 1
    #22994244 - 03/10/16 09:38 PM (8 years, 19 days ago)

There's a large duck pond area outside of my work.

At the duck pond there's this one delicious looking goose.

I see it there almost everyday, just eating grass, squaking.

One day I was standing there, just starring at it.  It seemed to know.  It stopped eating grass, looked up, and started getting all flustered.

Anyways, I wanna kidnap it, hopefully keep it alive long enough to feed it lots of rich foods to give it a fatty liver.

What kind of things should I feed it to get its liver fatty like a foie gras liver?

My plan is that once I get it a fatty liver, I want to prep and cook it peking style (i.e. drying out the skin and separating it with pressurized air, roasting in an open woodfire heat, glazing it as it roasts.)

I think it would be delicious, but I'm not sure if I can get that peking style finish on the duck while still having the liver in it.  Maybe I need to take the liver out and cook it independently on its own?

I need suggestions before I kidnap this thing.

foie gras liver i think is through forced feeding of certain things, i doubt you could make that happen without the whole process.

also beware during the kidnapping, them birds got wings of steel and beaks of pinch your shit tight. don't want to miss and piss them off, they will whoop your ass if you let them.

also just buy a poor bird already condemned, this one seems to be happy and have a chance at life.

This was on the radio a while ago.  It's a good story..  Now I have to go and try some foie gras.

lol I commend your compassion for the animal.  But my hunger trumps such sympathy for animal rights.

I know that traditionally, foie gras is simply made by feeding ducks highly nutritious meals.  The force feeding aspect is more of a modern way of mass producing foie gras at a fast rate.

Then find your way to the nearest supermarket. If hunger is the issue, you'll find that a trip to the store is a much easier and quicker fix than catching a bird, feeding it and then slaughtering it. If you're hungry now, imagine how hungry you'll be at the end of the process.

The reason why you shouldn't go for this bird isn't animal rights, btw. You see this goose every day and think about eating it. I bet that other people see it as well, and they may just see a goose being a silly goose and most likely several people actually like the bird in a way. While others can enjoy seeing this bird going about its merry ways every day, you could kill it only once. That sounds like a bad tradeoff and betrays that your idea is highly egocentric.

It may have been a modern way back in 2500BC when the Egyptians first tried it, but it's been a pretty established practice for a long time now.

Do you think it would taste good? I don't think you should eat it, that tiny pond...  especially the liver. What kinds of chemicals do the landscapers treat that lawn with? What's the PH of that water?
I mean, shit looks pretty heavy.
Looks like all the runoff from those parking lots. Don't eat city birds, they said.
If you kidnap it you should breed it before you consume it.

Geese are easy and fairly cheap to raise

Have fun either way! Haha

Very true, I didn't even think about that. It'd probably taste bad and may even be unhealthy for you to eat it. The water and food source for that goose is in a highly populated area. Maybe you can try breeding it like Muncher said. I personally wouldn't eat it.

I'm on my phone now, when I get to a pc I have Ann awesome recipe for goose sausage using the neck as a natural casing. It's really really good, made a dozen of then couple years ago with some Canada geese.

This guy Hank Shaw writes some awesome books on hunting, fishing, gardening, and cooking. If someone is looking for good recipes for things you kill/grow yourself, this guy's website and books are great.

We used to have nice swans in a pond near my house but a few people u know poached them all around Thanksgiving and Christmas.

I thought it was pretty pathetic.  Turkey is like 50c a pound and everyone enjoyed the swans in the park.

Those fucking street punk welfare bums couldn't even afford 50c a pound. Lame.

I wouldn't have touched the swans, the turkey would definitely be dead in my freezer. Only 50ยข/# is still $10/20# bird that was raised and lived like a thing, not a being.

Wild birds have more than just parasites in them.

If you X-ray a wild bird, they will generally have metal objects in them, including lead and who knows what else.

(metal objects tend to be very easy to see on X-ray)

The good thing about parasites, aside from things like prions, they are generally killed after cooking the meat.

When was the last time you gave an X-Ray to a bird. :rofldrunk:

I'd like to see even a few links comparing the health and quality of farm raised geese, to backyard raised geese, to wild geese, or chicken or turkey or any other poultry. I would be surprised if someone could prove to me that store bought poultry is healthier in any way than wild.
