"Flowerbed" oysters
    #22982679 - 03/07/16 01:58 PM (7 years, 11 months ago)

So I've long wanted to have an edible mushroom "flowerbed" out side. Would I be better off making straw logs and lightly burying them with all the holes at the top or should I just dump colonized sawdust into a trench?

I would bury colonized straw logs, removed from their plastic of course.

Sawdust blocks would great work too.

I would also mulch the beds with chopped straw or woodchips.

Here's some colonized & "spent" reishi blocks buried with organic coffee grounds..

I dumped colonized, slightly contaminated grain in a garden trench in a shady area and am hoping these spring rain storms will help things along.

I wouldn't say they are eating quality but I do know they are pretty.  You can bury spent blocks under soil and they will fruit after rain like these pics show.

My town has free mixed mulch. I would soak it for a few min then drain and mix with spent substrate of blue oysters
