Ps. Caerulipes, any other in the appalachias?
    #2298595 - 02/03/04 08:41 PM (13 years, 5 months ago)

from the research i've done thus far, it would seem that the only strain of Ps. that grows naturally in the appalachias (south western virginia, north carolina, eastern tennessee) is the blue footed psilocybe, or ps caerulipes (i think thats right...) is anyone privy to some information that i am unaware of, and if so, what are optimal spots to look?

Extremely hard to find in its natural state. Do a search, was talked about extensively a couple years ago. Good luck when the season starts and bring a camera

thanks hawk...i was curious about any other strains, besides the blue footed, that might also reside in the area....any ideas about that, or good locations?

hey u wouldn't happen to frequent 'tww' would you? If you do, then I don't wanna incriminate you. And I don't wanna incriminate myself by saying what tww is. You'll know what it is if i'm right ;-) just thought i saw that username before somewhere.

then why would i incriminate myself? :wink: PM me if you want.

thanks for the tip on the search, you guys really have picked this one apart, haven't you! :smile: i'll definitely take my camera, if i get the opportunity to go on a hunt. any tips or the like, would be greatly appreciated, its hard to pick through all the mushie-head talk in those other threads :-P ...though i'm sure i'm learning quite alot. i'm now absolutely in love with the idea of searching for these booginses (mushrooms in general, caerulipes included) in their natural habitat!!

Ok, i just thought i would bring this up;

P. caerulipse is a species, not a strain. So called strains are a pseudo-taxon and in the context of identification of mushrooms [or any organism] are purely arbitrary.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.
