First attempt at loph to trich (caespitosa) can't believe how fairly simple it was. It's now starting to show growth
Super simple when they are big enough. I have several cuttings callousing and waiting to root out for grafting purposes.
Awesome job you did there fuzzy.

Question!
I recently cut a loph I had Due to rot, It had many different heads poppin up
I feel like a sliced some a little too high But it was the only thing I could've done cause that's where the rot stopped
What's the shortest you guys have ever cut a loph for graphing
I'm at work and I wish I had a pic to post up,
I grafted multiple heads to a bridgessi leg
The buttons were about the size of your pinkie nail

Thanks boss!
Well now that I'm out of grafting stock I figured I'd try using one of my truck seedlings. It's too young to the tie down, so will see if it works sitting in a humidity dome

Thats gonna be hard to say. Best you could do is place it in front of a fan and thwn wait and see if it will throw out some roots.

I wish there was a forum that only focuses on Mexican cacti cultivation and pics. (My favorites are ariocarpus, lophophora, aztekium.) I want an aztekium so bad :'(. This post is somewhat off topic.

Really? I am more interested in arios, aztekiums, astrophytums, pelecyphora and turbinicarpus than lophs these days. Lophs are easy to grow and the genus is pretty uniform in look, I got sketched out by the illegality and got rid of all of mine. I could look at astros all day.
Arios and aztekiums are pretty finicky and slow though, so I guess I could see that one might get sick of dealing with their bullshit. Once a loph gets to a certain size and you have the rhythm down they're pretty easy to care for.

I do keep a somewhat varied collection of turbs but rarely sow seed now (oh! apart from 5 from a T. lophophoroides that I attempted pollination of by an L. williamsii) All my turb, astro and ario seeds have been put forwards for the grafting competition prize pool.

Looks like I have a name for what will cure the empty feeling inside. I googled them all and they went from a 2, to a hot 9 since I first learned about them. Especially aztekium ritteri. Such a cool/weird looking beast, I must have one. Can all these guys be started on peres?
Edit: apparently yes, awesome

Aztekium (especially A. ritterii) are slow and finicky, yes, but not Ariocarpus. A. kotschoubeyanus and A. agavoides will bloom on their 4th season, A. fissuratus on their 5th and the rest should not follow too far (on their roots, of course). Besides, once well established they will be immune to everything but the grossest mis-watering. People are put off growing them from seed by their fame but I found they are no harder than, say, Turbinicarpus: they germinate well and are resistant as seedlings.
A. kotschoubeyanus LH1176, sown 2009, blooming 2012. That is a 2" pot.

This is the cutest species, those heart shaped tubercles make a lovely display on bigger plants. Those plants have since grown a bit and are now comfortable each on its own 2" pot, but I estimate they won't stay there for long.

Aztekium ritteri own root is the shit. I love aztekium but they are a bitch own root from seed. Hope to degraft one of each sp
Going back a few posts that member didn't have live plant/tissue (explant) so rather then starting seeds normally and sterilizing later he will start seeds in vitro to have clean material. I've sown some seeds but may have killed them as they haven't germinated yet. Tissue culture is interesting but I think mass pereskiopsis grafting and pupping is easier and faster for mass material unless you have your technique down packed. I'm hit and miss with TC.

Yes, tissue culture is really interesting. Here's an old post by an old member on here, Una, who I have not seen post anything in years… This will shed some more light on the world of tissue culture:
https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/1932583/fpart/all/vc/1
By the way, yea, if you over sterilize the seeds, they die. PPM seems to be very gentle on seeds when sterilizing. But I notice Salvia divinorum gets burned very quickly with the super acidic solution. 4hrs for seeds is ok, but half of that for some plant material. You'll see from that post above, Una had is protocols down pretty good. Time is saved on so many levels.

So after three months indoors with no water they're back out. They got a heavy watering and put in the greenhouse. My blue agave doesn't look to good hopping it comes back, otherwise everyone else is looking happy.
